Description
This is another of the chain link fence pieces I love to do. It's a 5 X 7 inch acrylic on Cresent Illustration Board. I really like this piece cause it serves as a reminder of the beauty we can sometimes walk right past every day, the things we see so much, or think we see so much that they don't warrant a closer or second look. This time of year offers an endless visual smorgasboard. I adore the combination of the repeated (cold) geometry of the fence with the fragility, softness and brilliance of the deteriorating leaf. The original was (unfortunately) stolen from a small showing in Rogers, Minnesota
Signed prints are available. (ddecay@gmail.com)

I Tottaly understand I am Canadian as well and I would look at that when I was in school felt like prison sometimes at recess for one is fenced in. And this one just reminds me of winter at Churchill public school when my tounge got stuck to a pole in the winter and watching the fences around me as it snowed lightly then harder. I was left outside for a while. Shouldn't have taken the dare but it was beautiful and soothing to watch the snow fall between all the fences

This Late Fall looks so real Very well done I hope to end up seeing whats on the other side of the gate., But well done how long did it take you to make this perfectly perfect? I am guessing mesurements took place and just pure dedication to make it look so realistic and natural well done

Hi Laila GG,
Thanks for the kind words.
This piece isn't the most uplifting of paintings but I like it because it conveys how the onset of winter usually feels to me. Dark, confining, as if I'm crumbling, like that leaf.
Being a Canadian, perhaps the same dread or ennui strikes you that time of year too?
As for how long it took, not very... I did a sketch of one section of the fence in reverse and just kept burnishing that over and over (lined up properly with itself/the next set of chain links) until that was laid down. The rest was tedious but fast...masking it and putting in the background and then on to rendering the shading on the fence and the leave.
I think if I were to do this one over (I almost never do that) I'd probably leave the snow out of it or maybe just put a few flakes here and there instead of there being so many and spaced so evenly, which happens during snowfall but still looks wrong or fake to me.
The other side of the gates always hold wonders beyond our wildest imaginings don't they?
You are welcome to come see for yourself because somewhere in my heart winter is almost always on it's way.
Take care, DDK

Thanks Shayne Fairey. It's my favorite time of year also. Too bad it's followed by my least favorite, but then you'd know all about that being a northern neighbor.-----ddK

Maybe I was >>
Naw. If I was, I'd be kind enough to leave a long note why I stole the painting and couldn't buy it directly from you, then would later send you cash >>
