Description After several people asked me how I made Star Map , I decided to just make a tutorial. Because this is my first tutorial (and because I'm still pretty new at fractals), I warn you to not set your expectations too high. I'm still learning, so if you see a glaring error or have a suggestion, please let me know.

Also, please be creative with this tutorial! I used similar parameters to make another one of my images, Spore , which looks nothing like a solar system. Try different variations to make something unique.

Finally, let me know if you use this. I really want to see your results!

Wow, really simple and laid out tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing the steps and came up with an amazing image. I can't wait to tweak it and see what else I can use for variations to enhance it. I will definitely be giving you credit once I finish with my tweaks.

But I not very satisfied with the result, the lines on the ground are not visible as in yours.

I'm such a newbie.Β  I tried to Google this but cannot find it.Β  What is Ztranslate?Β Β  Other than that, it's soooooo cool to see it evolve!

Thanks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

daelly In reply to IAmThatStrange [2013-07-24 05:47:26 +0000 UTC]

It's a variation. I'm pretty sure it came with the version of Apo I have (7x 15B). It's right in between zscale and zcone. Does that help?

Hi there, I know it's an old post, but I'm having trouble with this: The smaller spheres are all stretched Any suggestions?

grenadefox In reply to grenadefox [2013-06-03 21:25:52 +0000 UTC]

daelly has kindly set me straight! For anyone else who may encounter this issue (or anyone new to Apo like me!) here is the solution:
I got this problem due to not realising the 'variations' search is case sensitive, and that the little 3D logo is not a substitute for 3D. Because of this I was using the 'spherical' plugin and not 'Spherical3D' - problem solved!

Thanks again!

Hello, I used your tutorial here . I also see that we've been catching each other on each other's pages :3. Gotta love the visitor list thingy XD. I got a bit lost, well i got to the last part and i was trying to figure out how to make the little balls go up and stuff, so after messing with some numbers i got the final result @_@. Not exactly like it but i guess that happens sometimes XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

daelly In reply to Ostria [2012-12-06 00:26:37 +0000 UTC]

Very interesting result! It's so cool that just tiny tweaks can create a completely different image. To solve the issue of the balls going up, you may have to adjust the ztranslate on the bubble transform (from the tutorial, this is transform 5 but it may be different depending on your tweaks).

Ostria In reply to daelly [2012-12-06 00:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Hm, I'll try it out next time, I usually do each tutorial 2-3 times depending on how badly i mess up each time XD. This one wasn't that horribly far from the original, usually try to get to the original and stray away from there. It was looking perfect and identical until I got to the adjustment window D:!

daelly In reply to Ostria [2012-12-06 05:32:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm the same way. I don't know how many times I've been using someone else's tutorial and thinking they must have totally screwed something up just to find out that I put a variation on the wrong transform or something. The good thing about having to redo it so many times is that the techniques start getting hammered into my brain.

Ostria In reply to daelly [2012-12-06 06:35:18 +0000 UTC]

i actually only didn't understand the color speed symmetry part of your walk-through so i just put it om the colors tab....there's probably some type of plugin i am not aware of now that i think about it *face palms*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

daelly In reply to Ostria [2012-12-06 06:50:37 +0000 UTC]

You were right to put it on the color tab. Color speed is called color symmetry in older versions of Apo apparently, so a lot of tutorials still call it symmetry. Here's the definition I found that might help: "Formerly known as 'Color symmetry', this transform-specific parameter controls the distribution of colour around the transform. Appropriate values vary with transform usage, e.g. whether a transform tiles or links from another." I'm not entirely sure I understand how it works, I just mess with it until I like it.

Hi, I saw your result, and it looks great. Are you sure that you are using a 3D version of Apophysis? I got it here: [link]

This is a great tutorial and even greater piece of art. I tried to recreate it and I am stuck at the following point: In step 5 when I create the flame as described it only creates the central bubble as a 3d body all other bubbles are flat pressed to the normal layer and not 3d at all. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Great guide!

Applied it and made my own starmap version, cf. [link] .

Only added an extra layer with additional "loonie"ness plus added a few filters with GIMP 2.6.

Kudos and thanks to you!
