Crystalline Revenge, pt. 1

Plot:
-Crystals plague the Earth, creating the lava beast Obsidius.

Earth is caught in the crosshairs of an incoming asteroid swarm. This puts the Global Defense Force on high alert. Forces scramble to react to the sudden arrival of these peculiar asteroids. The Kaiju also act strange, as if they know something bad is about to happen. During the chaos, Masato and Commander Taguchi scramble to Mikami's desk as she has the latest reports from her scanning.

Keiko: Our lunar sensors have detected multiple objects heading directly toward Earth.
Masato: Are they alien ships?
Keiko: No, readings indicate that they are asteroids... hundreds of them.
Ryoji: But why didn't our deep space probes pick them up them before now?
Keiko: That's what's so strange. They just... appeared... materialized out of nowhere.
Ryoji: They're headed right for us. There isn't time to launch countermeasures, so send out a global alert! How long until impact?

Explosions suddenly sound off nearby. One asteroid crashes into the HQ, killing a few personnel, and shocking the others.

Keiko: Does that answer your question?

Across the world, showers of meteorites peppered the planet, landing in different places around the world. Many cities take serious damage from the impact. Buildings collapse, explosions engulf people, and power is cut off. Not even the Kaiju sanctuary on Monster Island is safe, as several meteors strike the island, putting the Kaiju there on edge. Masato and the GDF briefly recover from the bombardment, which ends as suddenly as it began.

Masato: And I was looking forward to having the weekend off...
Ryoji: Save it, Ishimaru. We don't know if the worst is over or if it's still on its way. Mikami, check on the Kaiju in Monster Island. Those meteors may have damaged the force field barriers.
Keiko: The island has taken several small hits, but... wait a minute.
Masato: What's wrong?
Keiko: Something strange is happening! It looks like some kind of... crystal formation! They're growing from the impact points!
Ryoji: My God... I've got a hunch the Vortaak are behind this. An invasion can't be far behind.

Energy pulses from the impact point in the base. Tall crystals suddenly burst from the crater. Natsumi barely gets out of the way in time, a shard lightly cutting her face. Another impact has destroyed the brig, setting the now insane Gondo free. Readings on his scanner indicate raw power from the crystal. Almost entranced by it, he uses a laser cutter to slice a piece of it off, and he takes it with him, reuniting with his loyal followers.

Soldier: Admiral, what's going on?
Manzo: Retribution. Get this crystal into the Gotengo's maser charger and prepare for launch. We're going hunting.
Soldier: But sir, you already went through court martial and are deemed unfit for duty. Maybe you should-

  Gondo then shoots the soldier dead. He glares at the others, who are now too afraid to stand up to him. Convinced they are going to join him now, the admiral puts his gun away, and they go to the Gotengo, killing anyone who tries to stop them. They launch the Gotengo, and the others witness it taking off.

Natsumi: That's the Gotengo!
Chiba: Who the hell is piloting it?
Masato: It's Admiral Gondo. A meteor must have broken him through.
Ryoji: Contact the Gotengo.

Their monitor turns on to reveal the grazed admiral. Ryoji stands up to talk to him, clearly irritated by the admiral's irrational action.

Ryoji: Gondo, this is a really bad time to go Kaiju hunting. Crystals are growing around the world, and we don't know why. The Kaiju are escaping, but they have not yet posed a critical threat.
Manzo: Shut the fuck up, Commander! I detected an insane amount of power in these crystals. They're the key to ridding us of the Kaiju menace once and for all! I'm going to liberate the world of the Kaiju once and for all, and I'm going to do it my way! Interfere, and I will unleash its power on you!

Manzo then cuts off the transition, blocking all connections. The others are shocked. He had been going downhill slowly, but this recent event seems to have finally pushed him over the edge. They knew a showdown between the admiral and another Kaiju like Godzilla was inevitable at this rate, and they dreaded to know how powerful these crystals were. They had to do something about this, and it was now or never.

Ryoji: I've worked with Gondo for 25 years. That just wasn't him.
Masato: I wonder, have these crystals corrupted his mind? Where is the Gotengo going?
Mayu: New York. There's high concentration of crystals there.
Keiko: I've just detected Godzilla. According to my projection, he seems to be following the same path as the admiral.
Masato: That can't be a coincidence.
Ryoji: Ishimaru, Fujiwara, I want you and your team in America ASAP. Your mission is to stop Gondo.
Natsumi: What do you want us to do when we catch him?
Ryoji: All attempts to re-establish radio contact have been futile. Admiral Gondo's true intentions are in question; he is now a rogue and dangerously unstable. Bring him in... or bring him down.

On their VTOL, Masato, Natsumi, Konosuke, Shinichi, Miho, Asuka, Chiba, and Mayu track the Gotengo down as it makes its way to the United States. As the pilots accompanying them fly, the team watches the news, and they are shocked by what is happening. The places hit the hardest by this crystal meteor shower were Japan, Australia, America, and England. The crystals also had bizarre ecological effects on the cities they've claimed. Masato couldn't comprehend what is going on. As a matter of fact, they were all scared. This was beyond what they were used to dealing with.

Masato: Man these crystals are everywhere. They're fucking the world up.
Natsumi: What are they doing exactly?
Masato: Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, severe climate shifts. They're even beginning to affect the planet's gravitational flow.
Konosuke: We also got a lot of Kaiju running around now.
Shinichi: They haven't posed a major threat yet. But I'm more worried about these crystals.
Asuka: Why is that?
Shinichi: They could potentially rip the entire planet apart.
Miho: Oh my God.
Chiba: The GDF better find a way to stop them then.
Mayu: I agree. If we don't, this could be the end of civilization.
Pilot: Ishimaru: We've detected three Kaiju following us. What do we do?

Masato takes a look out the VTOL. He sees Baragon and Manda swimming behind them, and Varan flying. The trio's mana chargers glow, and they take notice. Perhaps they have come to try and end this crystal menace?

Masato: Those are the Yamato Guardians. They're not a threat, so don't provoke them. They might be here to destroy the crystals destroying their homeworld.

The VTOL suddenly shakes violently, and alarms go off. It shakes again, and Natsumi sees the engines are on fire, and they are rapidly descending.

Natsumi: What the hell happened?!
Pilot: Something hit us! Prepare for crash-landing!

Knowing it's going to be a bumpy ride, they all strap in tightly, bracing for a hard landing. The VTOL comes crashing hard, and they hold on tightly. Masato and Natsumi clutch hands. After a rough slide, they come to a stop. For a moment, they sigh in relief. But then the temperature begins to rise dramatically. Fires combust, and the floor begins to melt.

Masato: Everybody out! OUT OUT OUT!!!

The eight rush out of the VTOL and make it to a rocky slope just in time. They see the VTOL crashed into a river of lava and is burning and melting. The pilots inside are unable to get out in time, and they are both burned alive. Asuka hides her face in Konosuke's arms in fright. They look around to see they are in a place that's a mix of volcanic wasteland and city. They weren't sure where they landed. In the distance, a volcano is erupting, surrounded by crystals which also mark the city.  Lava is flowing through the streets and fires are raging out of control. Volcanic ash falls from the sky like gray snow.

Natsumi: God help us...
Shinichi: Where are we?
Chiba: According to my GPS... this is Seattle.
Mayu: But Seattle doesn't have volcanoes, right?
Chiba: That's Mt. Rainier. It's about 59 miles south-southeast of Seattle.
Masato: It's an active volcano. The crystals must have accelerated an eruption from it.
Konosuke: So... do you guys have a plan? Any of you? I don't want to be barbecued.
Masato: We still have to get to New York. We need to find another VTOL. And we need a pilot.
Natsumi: The faster we do this, the sooner we can stop Gondo.

They search the burned Seattle for a GDF platform, hoping to find another craft to reach their final destination. So far, they've had little luck. The volcanic ash soon forces them to take shelter and catch a breath. They drink stored clean water. A lava bomb hits a nearby house, setting it ablaze.

Shinichi: I hope no one was in that building.
Chiba: I'm just lucky that wasn't us.
Natsumi: Where are the Kaiju?
Asuka: I see them. They just stopped at the coast. They might sense something they don't like.

On the outskirts of Seattle, the Yamato Guardians wait anxiously, as if something is going to happen. The ground shakes violently, prompting the group to look outside. A nearby lava pool with white crystals growing inside violently erupts, flinging lava and shards everywhere. Baragon was the first to react to the new activity, clearly sensing another lifeform. Just then, a huge, rocky mass raised out of the ground. Slamming its stone hands against its chest and roaring into the sky, the new Kaiju looked back at Baragon. Or was it looking? Baragon couldn't tell as he tilted his head and tried to understand how this thing could see him, or was even alive. It had no eyes and most of its body was made of rock, lava leaking out of its joints and mouth. A trio of horns tipped its head and its tail ended in a split, like a shark's. Masato and company have met many strange beasts and this thing was no exception.

Masato: This is new.
Natsumi: What is that?
Chiba: My scanners are picking up the same energy from the crystals coming from that... thing.
Asuka: Look at that rocky hide. It looks like obsidian.
Konosuke: I hereby call this bad boy Obsidius.

Baragon charges at Obsidius, ready to fight. However, as he jumps, Obsidius grabbed Baragon by the throat and slams him into the ground. Varan comes swooping in to aid his brother. Obsidius is quick to react; his tail is suddenly drenched in lava. He then swings his tail, flinging lava at Varan, taking him out and burning him. Masato shouts in pain as he is burned as well. Manda tries to coil him, but his extreme body temperature is too much for her to handle, and she is forced to get off. Only Baragon was able to resist Obsidius' intense body heat, but even he had his limits. Baragon used his fire breath, but Obsidius suddenly regurtitated lava in a perfect stream, forcing the guardian to flee. Obsidius is quick to pursue, smashing through buildings to get to him. Unable to catch up, he curls into a tight ball and moves even faster, grabbing Baragon by the tail and throwing him in lava. Obsidius then takes notices of a red crystal and starts to consume it. He then starts glowing a bright red, as if he was on fire. He then unleashes a powerful blast, knocking the three Guardians back, and injuring their human hosts in the process. Obsidius roars in victory.

Mayu: Guys, I found a VTOL and a pilot who's willing to take us to New York! If we hurry, we can get to New York and stop the Gotengo!
Masato: What about Obsidius? That thing can't leave the city!
Chiba: We're in luck, 'cuz look who showed up to deal with it.

They all see Godzilla arriving. Wasting no time, they get onto the new VTOL and flee the burning Seattle. Godzilla charges, and already, he is putting up a better fight. Both Kaju brawled in the lava pools and didn't suffer as much damage, though Obdisius was more immune to it. Godzilla fired his atomic breath, blasting just a bit out of Obsidius. Obsidius responded with a magma stream. While they fought, the Yamato Guardians sensed nearby crystals emitting more energy, like the one Obsidius absorbed. Baragon destroyed a blue one and obtained a protective chrome shield ability. Manda claimed a yellow one that enhanced her electric powers. Varan absorbed a white one that made him much faster. Using their newfound powers, they gained the upper hand on the volcanic beast. As Godzilla recovered, he absorbed energy from a green crystal, which greatly enhanced his regeneration even more than it already was. Obsidius blew a spine off of him, but it grew back suddenly. Obsidius continued to fight, but Godzilla was already destroying him, until finally, Godzilla blasts a hole in Obsidius’ chest, then grabs him and throws him into the sea.  Obsidius’s core cooled down, and the creature died. Godzilla and the Yamato Guardians departed, making for New York.

Out in space, the Vortaak mothership has started to orbit the moon. Velicia has taken notice of the battle in Seattle, and how the Kaiju got stronger from these new Power Surge crystals. To her, this is an opportunity to potentially usurp the human race after so many failed attempts to claim the planet. By this time, she had usurped Lord Ghidrah, believing he is no more. All of the other surviving aliens have sided with her, except for X and Graecus. X is secretly working with Ghidorah to sabotage the invasion and resume his search, while Graecus is back in Seatopia, not heeding Sudola's calls. The recent encounter with Natsumi has had a major effect on his mind set. He then activates the communication device on his throne.

Graecus: Send a message to Velicia. Tell her that Seatopia will no longer take part of this invasion.
Mistress: Why not?
Graecus: I wish to settle Seatopia's score with humanity on my own terms. I think it's time I come to peace with the truth of my wife's fate.

Back on Earth, the Houtua sense the disruption and travel to find the gang, riding on a small. pink miniature Mothra. Kora follows them, riding a tiny lion with wings. Meanwhile, the Gotengo continues to travel across the United States. Gondo's state of mind is rapidly deteriorating, losing his sense of logic. He gazes at the crystal he stole. He knew his current state of mind was due to this horrible thing. However, he is unable to determine whether he is doing the right thing or if he has lost his mind completely.

Manzo: Why? What has possessed you to bring that wretched crystal on board this vessel? It-it's consumed you... magnified your hatred for the Kaiju. How many times have you led men into battle against these devil beasts... only to be disgraced by one humiliating defeat after another? You want nothing more than to destroy the Kaiju. Yes, destroy them all, or die to restore your honor. That is your destiny.
Gotengo Technician: Sir, we have a potential Kaiju signature in New York.
Manzo: Good! Full speed ahead. All stations, prepare Gotengo for battle!

Obsidius responded with a magma stream. While they fought, the Yamato Guardians sensed nearby crystals emitting more energy, like the one Obsidius absorbed. Baragon destroyed a blue one and obtained a protective chrome shield ability. Manda claimed a yellow one that enhanced her electric powers. Varan absorbed a white one that made him much faster. Using their newfound powers, they gained the upper hand on the volcanic beast. As Godzilla recovered, he absorbed energy from a green crystal, which greatly enhanced his regeneration even more than it already was. Obsidius blew a spine off of him, but it grew back suddenly. Obsidius continued to fight, but Godzilla was already destroying him, until finally, Godzilla blasts a hole in Obsidius’ chest, then grabs him and throws him into the sea.  Obsidius’s core cooled down, and the creature died. Godzilla and the Yamato Guardians departed, making for New York.

Out in space, the Vortaak mothership has started to orbit the moon. Velicia has taken notice of the battle in Seattle, and how the Kaiju got stronger from these new Power Surge crystals. To her, this is an opportunity to potentially usurp the human race after so many failed attempts to claim the planet. By this time, she had usurped Lord Ghidrah, believing he is no more. All of the other surviving aliens have sided with her, except for X and Graecus. X is secretly working with Ghidorah to sabotage the invasion and resume his search, while Graecus is back in Seatopia, not heeding Sudola's calls. The recent encounter with Natsumi has had a major effect on his mind set. He then activates the communication device on his throne.

Graecus: Send a message to Velicia. Tell her that Seatopia will no longer take part of this invasion.
Mistress: Why not?
Graecus: I wish to settle Seatopia's score with humanity on my own terms. I think it's time I come to peace with the truth of my wife's fate.

Back on Earth, the Houtua sense the disruption and travel to find the gang, riding on a small. pink miniature Mothra. Kora follows them, riding a tiny lion with wings. Meanwhile, the Gotengo continues to travel across the United States. Gondo's state of mind is rapidly deteriorating, losing his sense of logic. He gazes at the crystal he stole. He knew his current state of mind was due to this horrible thing. However, he is unable to determine whether he is doing the right thing or if he has lost his mind completely.

Manzo: Why? What has possessed you to bring that wretched crystal on board this vessel? It-it's consumed you... magnified your hatred for the Kaiju. How many times have you led men into battle against these devil beasts... only to be disgraced by one humiliating defeat after another? You want nothing more than to destroy the Kaiju. Yes, destroy them all, or die to restore your honor. That is your destiny.
Gotengo Technician: Sir, we have a potential Kaiju signature in New York.
Manzo: Good! Full speed ahead. All stations, prepare Gotengo for battle!
