@ courtnb, you need to add an alpha channel. Do this by right clicking on the all layers

Scuse me, but how the heck do you paste an image on top of another one without screwing up the layers??
When I try to paste my "horse", it goes to the very bottom layer and is really huge so it doesn't look like anything. Helpppppppp!!!!!!

Most of the time when I go to do a manipulation on GIMP, instead of erasing transparent it erases white. Like if I went to erase the background on the horse then instead of going transparent it goes white, covering the background. I'm the only one that seems to have this problem. Do you know if there is any way to fix this?

you have to go up to the layer menu-transparency- add alpha channel. then it will remove the white layer and the layer beneath will appear

Dont erase the horse first. What ya do is, you take the horse right click, copythe horse, get your background, then erase. Make sure that there is dotted lines around the horse ONLY. Or you must've anchored it somehow.

Okay, I have a question. How in the world do you add brushes to your others?/Make a new brush? I'm completely confused on that part. Other than that

When I put the black layer on top and set it to mode multiply, I can't see my other layer underneath it. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks fof making this tut! I've had GIMP for a while and have been learning new things slowly, layers, coloring, ect. I've always wanted to try doing some minips with all the AMAZING horse stocks around. (hehe) Your tut helped alot, I'm going to be trying this soon. And it's great that it's horses, because all the other tuts using people confussed me. :/ Thanks again!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!
I am apparently way too illiterate to figure this out. When I go to make the black layer, I only have foreground, background, white and transparent choices. I've tried everything (even though I don't know what I'm doing) and I can't get it black.
What am I doing wrong??
And thank you again - it rocks that you're willing to teach/help!!
Cheers!

Just make a transparent layer and dump some black color in it.

This is a great tutorial! It helped me a lot.
I have one question though - as a beginner, could you note how someone would resize the picture you are adding to make it look like it belongs there? As an example, if I wanted to add a rearing horse to a pasture background, how would I resize the horse, if there is a way to do that

DaMoose08 In reply to Fantasma1314 [2009-01-14 02:04:36 +0000 UTC]
Glad you like it! To resize the horse, you would go to Layer>Scale Layer.

Thanks so much for making this! All these Tutorials I find on random places say all this weird stuff and I'm like what?
But I do have one question. Do we have to add the black, because the picture I did isn't really bright.

You dont have to add the black. I just did because of the brightness.
