Hi, folks! I would like to present you my newest drawing; another picture from the cycle of surveying stories with dragons in backyard.

Few weeks ago I have watched HTTYD2... one more time, and I have realized that after devastation of Berk village done by Drago's Bewilderbest, vikings would need to make an basic record (list) of buildings and other construction on theirs island to know what has been destroyed and how much. From this point I have gone farther... I have supposed, that Chief Hiccup, as a great reformer in the Vikings' world, would - by the way - demand to make a general survey of all Berk Island to make a precise map of all islands in archipelago; to know how big it is and what is where. But Berk island is not flat (oh! NO, no!) so some viking' surveyors would have to also measure the height of this enormous mountain peaks, which we can see only at the few shots in movies and TV series. So there will be a very difficult LEVELING (the height measurement in surveying) to be done!

And here starts the story of this picture... and few other pictures which I will publish soon.

Chief Hiccup decided that Ruffnut and Tuffnut will make a leveling of the all Berk; you even can see him flying back to Berk on Toothless. As you can see, it was not a good idea. One measurement + two surveyors = 3 errors... like we're joking in surveying ;D Two-headed dragon will not help, by the way! But Twins don't want to give up! They started to measure a height from the leveling basic point, a bench mark located at the small, rocky island near Berk; it is this small stone pillar with iron knob at the top (the leveling basic point itself is exactly at the top of this knob). It is a point which height above the sea level is determined with very height precision - up to 0,1mm! - and is also very firm along time, physically stable. From such a point leveling always starts; using a leveling instrument, dumpy level (this small "telescope" at the tripod) and two leveling rods (which are in fact a huge rules ,a line gauges) good surveyor can "transfer" information about the height of bench mark to other points in terrain. How? It's simple! One leveling rod stands vertically at the bench mark and the second-one at the measured point (it can be anything: stone, ground, stream bottom or edge of some area - lake, field or road); surveyor read a height seen at the both leveling rods by a telescope in level (instrument has to be first put directly into horizontal plane) using a cross-hair marked at the viewer, and thanks to this he/she can simply calculate a difference between height of this two points, of course, knowing the height of bench mark first; to make a leveling we need two rods... but of this same type! Barf and Belch have wanted to help but they have taken two rods, each to different type of leveling: Barf is "fighting" with leveling rode used to traditional, optical leveling, and Belch keeps in mouth a leveling rod with bar code used in precise, digital leveling. Twins have taken for measurement an optical leveling instrument but to make a leveling they will have to fly to Berk village for second leveling rod for optical leveling; this same rod like Barf has.

And that is why they are argue!

How it will ends? I've already know that! But you will have to wait for the effects of the Great Surveying of the Berk Island... and then I will tell you how big and how high is the Berk Island! I promise you!

Witajcie, ludziska! Chciałbym zaprezentować wam mój najnowszy rysunek; kolejny obrazek z serii geodezyjnych opowieści ze smokami w tle.

Kilka tygodni temu obejrzałem JWS2... kolejny raz, i zdałem sobie sprawę, że po takiej dewastacji wioski Berk dokonanej przez Oszołomostrach Drago, wikingowie będą musieli zrobić generalną ewidencje (spis) budynków i innych konstrukcji na ich wyspie, aby wiedzieć co zostało zniszczone i jak bardzo. Z tego miejsca poszedłem dalej... Przypuszczałem, że Wódz Czkawka, jako wielki reformator świata wikingów, postanowi - tak przy okazji - dokonać wielkich pomiarów geodezyjnych całej wyspy Berk aby wykonać dokładne mapy wszystkich wysp w archipelagu; by poznać jak jest duży i co gdzie leży. Ale Berk nie jest płaska (Och! Co to to nie!) więc niektórzy z wikińskich geodetów będą musieli tez zmierzyć wysokość tych niebotycznych górskich szczytów, które możemy zobaczyć zaledwie na kilku ujęciach w filach i serialu telewizyjnym. Więc czeka ich bardzo trudna NIWELACJA (czyli pomiar wysokości w geodezji)!

I tu zaczyna się historia tego rysunku... i kilku innych obrazków, które wkrótce opublikuje!

Wódz Czkawka zdecydował, że to Mieczyk i Szpadka wykonają niwelacje całego Berk; nawet go widać jak leci spowrotem do berk na Szczerbatku. Jak widzicie to nie był dobry pomysł. Jeden pomiar + dwóch geodetów = trzy błędy... śmiejemy się w geodezji ;D A dwugłowy smok bynajmniej nie pomaga, tak na marginesie! Ale bliźniaki nie zamierzają się poddawać! Zaczęli mierzyć wysokość od bazowego punku wysokościowego, repera, położonego na małej skalistej wysepce w pobliżu Berk; to ten mały kamienny słupek z żelazną gałka na szczycie (bazowy punkt wysokościowy znajduje się dokładnie na czubku żelaznej gałki). Jest to punkt którego wysokość nad poziomem morza jest określona z bardzo dużą precyzję - do 0,1mm! - i jest bardzo stabilny w czasie, fizycznie trwały. Od takiego punktu zawsze zaczyna się niwelacja; używając instrumentu pomiarowego, niwelatora (ta mała "luneta" na trójnogim statywie) i dwóch łat niwelacyjnych (które są w praktyce wielkimi linijkami) dobry geodeta może "przetransferować" informacje o wysokości repera na inne punkty w terenie. Jak? To proste! jedna łata stoi pionowo na reperze a druga na mierzonym punkcie (to może być cokolwiek: kamień, ziemia, dno strumienia albo skraj jakiegoś obszaru - jeziora, pola lub drogi); geodeta odczytuje wysokości na obu łatach, które widzi przez teleskop w niwelatorze (instrument musi być najpierw ustawiony dokładnie poziomo) używając celownika (krzyża kresek) naniesionego na obiektywie i dzięki temu może łatwo obliczyć różnicę w wysokości między tymi punktami,, znając na początku wysokość repera; żeby wykonać niwelacje potrzebujemy dwóch ład... ale tego samego typu! Wym i Jot chcieli pomóc ale wzieli dwie łaty, każda do innego rodzaju niwelacji: Jot "walczy" z łatą do tradycyjnej, niwelacji optycznej, a Wym trzyma w pysku łatę z kodem kreskowym używaną do cyfrowej, niwelacji precyzyjnej. Bliźniaki zabrały na pomiar niwelator optyczny ale do wykonania nim niwelacji będą musieli poleciec do wioski Berk po drugą łate do niwelacji optycznej; taką sama jak ma Jot.

I to jest właśnie powód ich sprzeczki!

jak to się skończy? Ja to już wiem! Ale wy będziecie musieli poczekać na efekty Wielkiej Kampanii Pomiaroej Wyspy Berk... i wtedy powiem wam jak wielka i jak wysoka jest Wyspa Berk! Obiecuje!
