no problem at all! It is highly deserved, and do not be surprised if this does in fact get a DD, it is so worth it

WHAT THE HELL have you taken this photo with?!?!?
I mean, *cough* this is some ENORMOUS magnification.

DanielHeydecke In reply to lapis-lazuri [2014-06-01 13:11:31 +0000 UTC]

I used a special lense with a 5:1 instead of the normal 1:1 magnification.

Impressive. Focusing must have been tough, and the image is surprisingly clear for that kind of powerful optics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielHeydecke In reply to indojo [2014-05-27 16:30:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it was alive before and after taking the shot.

I can't even imagine! Whenever I try to photograph flies they always fly away before I can even compose the shot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielHeydecke In reply to AgonizingSwordfish [2014-05-23 17:50:52 +0000 UTC]

It was early in the morning. When it's still cold insects can't move very well and with the morning dew the wings are so wet that they can't fly away anyway.

DanielHeydecke In reply to artwizard133 [2014-05-22 06:18:56 +0000 UTC]

Ha, when I found this firefly in the grass, it looked like one of those you probably mean: A firefly-head with countles drops on it. So I tried something different. I wanted to specificly highlight just the eye itself, not the head. Those textures were just too fascinating.

And thanks!

How on earth did you manage to get this shot!!!??? Awesome!!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielHeydecke In reply to MarcosRodriguez [2014-05-21 19:05:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, I live near a marshland and currently there are millions of fireflies. And not just the tiny blue ones, but some really huge ones as well. Their heads alone are as big as a fly.
And I got myself this super-cool new macro-lense with 5:1 magnification. But if you zoom in you loose so much brightness that I had to use an external flash in one hand and the camera in the other.
It was early morning and this huge firefly was sitting on some moor grass. There wasn't any wind either. And the photo is the result of that.
