very very helpful ^^ thank you for sharing!
I just did not get the price thing, how exactly do you decide how much your work is worth?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Traumfaengerin-Wish [2012-03-23 14:17:19 +0000 UTC]
a starting point would be minimum wage x the hours it takes you to complete a piece - but of course that's just a relative idea. You can also just wing it and say okay.. my time is worth so much $ each hour. You can also take a look around DA and find artists at a similar artistic quality and copy their prices XD

Thank you so much for this. I have gotten a few commissions outside of the internet community, but I really hope to start commissioning here on DA in the near future and I honestly don't know how to start. You have helped me immensely. Thank you.

Hi~
I love this tutorial Can anyone tell me what a "flatted" image means?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
DarlingMionette In reply to AzulaWolfie [2012-01-27 15:38:58 +0000 UTC]
Thank you ! A "flatting" is when you take a color-less picture (like a black and white drawing) and add simple base colors to the picture (sort of like a coloring book) that becomes your "base" for all further shading.

harrie5 In reply to AzulaWolfie [2012-01-15 21:53:31 +0000 UTC]
Just plain colours without any shading c:
There's no shading, thus there's no depth, meaning it's 'flat'.

Your tutorials are always so awesome :3 thanks a lot for it ^^
I've been considering doing commissions for 6 months xD but I was unsure about how I would do it, and if I would have the time to do it, since i'd have to study more on the 2nd semester.
Anyway, I'm now actually going to open commissions, but I dont have a PayPal account, making one would be too much trouble and I dont know if it would worth it, so I'll just make point commissions for a while to see how it goes.
So I read that $10 would be like 600 points. But does people actually have that much points? Most people does from 20 to 200 points.
It's first time I try to do it, and I dont have many watchers (about 40 xD) so you think from 50 to 200-300 points are good enough for a first time?
And sometimes I take almost a month to finish a drawing, will that be a big problem? Plus, how many slots should I open? I'm really confused about it xD

DarlingMionette In reply to Lothiriell [2012-01-09 21:24:57 +0000 UTC]
some people do, yes XD, i usually have 600-2,000 on me at any given time. whatever you do, don't sell yourself short, if you wouldn't do a sketch for $2, then don't do one for the equivalent in points. Slots really depend on you - how fast do you work and how comfortable are you with having a queue line. I usually take 5-10 people and if i'm not working very fast, i start turning down commissions until I have a bit more freetime and things are moving faster :3

oh thank you >u<
btw, to have a PayPal account, do you really need an international credit card or there's another way? .-. seems like people at my country don't care abour PayPal so..
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Lothiriell [2012-01-27 15:09:14 +0000 UTC]
an international credit card? not even sure I know what that is XD, no to have a paypal account all you need is an email address and possibly some sort of bank account. - you can have an account without a bank account (they can send you a check in the mail for your money) but having a bank account is preferable XD then people just plug in your e-mail address whenever they need to send you money, and it's transferred to your account directly.

This was super helpful. Now all I need to do is practice like the wind. XD
Is it considered a turn-off for people if you only want to work in a category that you know? Like drawing characters from a certain tv show or movie or book rather than OC's?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to InvaderHaileigh [2012-01-09 17:46:13 +0000 UTC]
it can be - sometimes people really like your work but don't like the subject matter so much XD and it's harder to get commissions etc if you refuse to go outside that box - that's why it's good to learn and practice a bunch of different stuff so you feel more comfortable working on other things even if 90% of the time you still work in your given category :3
