Do they help a lot? I've been toying with the idea that it automatically makes everything better (I can dream, right?) but I hear that it's really only good for hair...

it's good for everything XD it doesnt make your talent better, but it certainly does make drawing easier than say, a mouse.

This is really useful, thanks
I'd use a lot of these tips to improve my work... if I wasn't stuck with MS Paint D:
But the light sources part will really help me because I suck at them XD

Aha, I'll have to find some of that free stuff
I don't do much digital work anyway, traditional pencils, pens and paper for me XD

DarlingMionette In reply to Bunna-x3 [2010-10-25 13:07:11 +0000 UTC]
XD i used to be the same way, but then I really got into digital. it's nice cause i dont have to keep buying supplies, and instead of an eraser, I have a much cleaner undo button i can pull out any time XD

Bunna-x3 In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 14:14:00 +0000 UTC]
Fair enough
I'm sticking with traditional methods for now, I'm doing a drawing every day for a year so I need to be able to take my drawing stuff to school ;D

DarlingMionette In reply to Bunna-x3 [2010-10-25 14:15:42 +0000 UTC]
i dont think i'd survive drawing everyday XD though i probably do that right now on commissions anyway XD lol sometimes i just need a break to do absolutely nothing -__- my schedule's always so hectic!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Bunna-x3 In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 15:35:19 +0000 UTC]
Aahhh, drawing's all that keeps me awake and not daydreaming in school. If I'm not drawing, my mind wanders, and I don't hear a word anyone says. If I am, I can listen to people, and it keeps me concentrated
I can't take breaks to do nothing... I'd get bored XD

XD lights are one of those things, that if you can't get it down... your picture is going to be awful. If you can get it.. your picture will be awesome. regardless of almost everything else in the picture -_- it's so important! Even I'm still learning XD

Epic! Thanks for the help. Should improve my shading and make it a bit more.. Anime/Realistic? XD I've been told mine tugs towards Anime/Cartoon with a little detail to make it realistic.

DarlingMionette In reply to PyschoArtist90 [2010-10-25 05:10:31 +0000 UTC]
XD mine's kind of the same way -_- i'm somewhere in that middle range of realistic and cartoon. sucks to be here, but you might as well own it!

PyschoArtist90 In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 06:11:57 +0000 UTC]
Yours looks more realistic then anything. xD I'm kinda trying to lean more to anime/realistic.

Hehe well I'll guarntee it right now, but I'll definitely not hesitate at all to fave part 2. I'm really looking forward to it! I'm excited!
I do use Photoshop CS3 though and have never messed around with SAI. But pretty much everything that's in the tutorial that you did with SAI, it would work for CS3 too, right? At least most of it would be able to access I think. I would just need to make a tweak or two to really get everything out of it if I'm using CS3.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Irukapooka [2010-10-25 04:43:30 +0000 UTC]
you'd just need different brushes, but for the most part, it'll work almost any paint program XD there's a few things I mention that are SAI specific, but they can be done. ^^
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Irukapooka In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 04:53:25 +0000 UTC]
Well, with the different brushes, it would be in the CS3 program right? Meaning it's included with it?
(Sorry, my brain is dead since since I have seen the Muro brushes that you have to buy to use. So I'm just hoping CS3 and SAI are included.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Irukapooka [2010-10-25 05:09:55 +0000 UTC]
well no XD since these are SAI brushes, and all my own custom ones, you arent going to find them in photoshop at all XD but im sure you can get some that work just the same
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Irukapooka In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 05:21:06 +0000 UTC]
Ah okay.
Thank you for clearing that up for me though.
I find it interesting that you're able to create your own brushes and actually be able to use them in your art as well!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to Irukapooka [2010-10-25 05:27:07 +0000 UTC]
XD I love creating my own brushes, it's super fun, and that way you can be sure that the brushes you're using fit your own personal style. There are some awesome painters out there - but I can't use their brushes for the painting i do. It doesn't work for how I paint. ^^
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Irukapooka In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 05:35:53 +0000 UTC]
Hehe we're still talking about digital art, right? Hehe.

DarlingMionette In reply to Irukapooka [2010-10-25 06:02:03 +0000 UTC]
yup! look at it this way. I like to see brushstrokes in my work, i think it adds character... so using a round airbrush to paint, isn't going to cut it. Someone else might be able to make fabulous pictures with an airbrush..but it just doesn't suit my style. By the same token, handing over my painty brushes to someone who likes to cell shade.. isn't going to do them a whole lot of good. XD That's why I like making custom brushes. I can cater them to the style I like to do - and adjust them to work with my talent.

Irukapooka In reply to DarlingMionette [2010-10-25 06:49:21 +0000 UTC]
That does make a lot of sense!
Thank you for the explanation! You're so kind!
