Description What a lovely wooden horse, of course I'll sign for it.

When shadows fall, and trees whisper day is ending,
my thoughts are ever wending home.
when crickets call, my heart is forever yearning,
once more to be returning home.
when the hills conceal the settingο»Ώ sun,
stars begin a' peeping one by one.
Night covers all, and though fortune may forsake me,
sweet dreams will ever take me home.

That's what you think, if this little plan of yours doesn't work we'll never be going home.

Doc! You're not supposed to pass out on the patient.

*Somebody get the smelling salts!*

But I'll take that as a compliment, thank you

Sometimes the story behind a picture is so huge that it makes me feel like I haven't got enough words to describe it.
There's a wonderful 'mise en abyme' in your picture, a box-inside-the-box, a story under another one, told or untold, and imagined... From the face behind the curtain to the two skeleton-men talking in front of the horse.
I'm, as often in front of your art, puzzled and admirative.

Thank you

It was nice to have my creative drive wake up, and to start with this. I love working on these for some reason, I feel I can put all kinds of detail into them in a different way than I can in other images. I have ideas of different things being played out on old Shakespearean stages in a Terry Gilliam or Jean-Pierre Jeunet fashion.

And I love catching your attention, and that you look for all the details.

You always catch my attention, it's just that sometimes I'm a little slower to write a comment because I want to come back on your picture until words come to my mouth (well, because it's not something else that comes to it, so... ).
I really appreciate your workflow, how it comes to you and nearly always (okay, ALWAYS!! ) gives birth to pictures where your attention to details show, as much as your culture. Or perversion, and well, without it you wouldn't be YOU

There's a macabre beauty to this, especially knowing the chain of events it unleashed. They say War, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, rides a pale horse, and I'd like to think your rendition is a horse he'd be proud to ride. The poem is a great touch too, is it yours or someone else's?

Overall it has a kind of Gothic feel to it, but with modern elements blended in as well. The more I look at it, the more details I find in it that I like. The perspective on the bridge is spot on, and the use of uneven wooden boards is another nice touch. The entire background looks remarkably like an old tapestry. My only gripe is that the horse contrasts against the background a bit too much, although the laborers and skeletons go a long way towards connecting the two.

Thank you. Ahhhh the four horsemen. That would be some awsome subject matter for these kind of image I like to do. The poem is actually a song from the 20's [link] and I thought this might be the thoughts of one of the Spartans who just wanted to go home.

The background is supposed to be like a scenery curtain for a stage, the contrast was difficult, I wanted the horse to be the main focus and everything else to become apparent as you looked around at the image, but the problem is the different screen calibrations, even between my house and my work the screens looked different, and the faces behind the curtain were supposed to be only visible to those looking really closely at the image, but I think they came out too obvious.

The screen calibration problem makes sense now that I think about it. Perhaps someday computers will get bored with screwing with us and just do what we want for a change. I think that poem/song lyrics perfectly captures the thoughts of every Spartan, and for that matter, every soldier that has ever fought in a war. Oh, and the Four Horsemen is definitely a subject you should do a piece on. Very few can truly do them justice, but I get the feeling you could.

I hope they all went to the bathroom before climbing inside the horse. haha

Awesome work, man! It feels like watching a stage play, I love it. Did you model all the stuff in the pic? Wow!

darthhell In reply to ozzboyd [2010-08-12 17:39:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank Ozz,

No, this kind of modeling is beyond me (or at least my patience ). I did some adjustments but the people are M3 and the horse is poser 6's horse. The masks came from M3's face, but the background image on the curtain, the curtain itself, the wagon and the rockers are all mine.

They'd have to be complete idiiots to accept a token of such size from a foe dedicated to their annihilation. Just another historical fantasy or urban legend.

Oh I know, it makes you wonder where old legends like this actually come from, and which side made up the story. Or was this war even real? I think back then it was an urban legend, but with age has become historical fantasy

By the way your art is quite excellent, I don't think I've ever seen this particular story put across so beautifully in a single image. Well done.
