Description I drew the sketch for this while in Europe, not long after seeing Ramin Karimloo and Gina Beck perform "Phantom" in London. I guess you could say I was inspired!

"Past the point of no return
No backward glances
Our games of make-believe are at an end...
Past all thought of "if" or "when"
No use resisting
Abandon thought and let the dream descend..."

This is one of my absolute favorite songs from the show (next to "Music of the Night" and "Final Lair"... goodness, it's so hard to choose, but I finally decided that those are my favorites.)

Anyway. If you do comment, why not tell me what your favorite song is from the show? Is it the sumptuously romantic "All I Ask of You" or the beautifully inspiring "Think of Me"? Or is it one of the lesser-known tracks like "Wandering Child"? Give me your thoughts! I always like to hear them.

*dies after seeing the texture of the cloak and dress detail*

...Depends on the singer, really. Stranger Than You Dreamt It, Final Lair and Wandering Child. It is in the lair and at the cemetery that the Phantom is truly the Phantom and Christine is Christine and Raoul is Raoul...

thanks!

Good point there. The characters are all together, and you can see right into the heart of the struggle. Erik loves Christine, but is obsessively creepy about it (and doesn't know a better way); Christine is lost and afraid, yet strong willed at heart; and Raoul loves Christine, and his her shelter and protection. Yep. Those two scenes hit it on the nail.

Music of the night...absolutely.

Christine's face soehow seems frightened, yet kinky. I love that!

... it's kinda weird thinking about your cute little cartoon versions being all smoldery and sexual. Really adds some new emphasis to the whole innocence lost thing.

But my all time favorite song is "Stranger than You Dreamt it." When sung properly, it's so creepy, but childlike, and disturbing, but pitiable. It shows just how dangerous Erik really is while at the same time showing how innocent and lonely. When he drags himself on his belly to beg Christine to love him, it fills me so many mixing emotions that I can hardly stand it. He's repulsive, and volatile, and mentally unstable, and obsessive... but also so pathetic and so sweet (in a kinda creepy way). At the same time that I'm repulsed by him, I'm drawn to him. A sort of demented attraction takes hold every time I listen to it.

It's the song that made me fall in love with Erik.

The title song pretty much rocks too, though. (Although, I prefer the eighties drums as apposed to the mariachi band.)

That's a very good point you have there. While I tend to draw my chibis in dramatic situations, this one went far beyond what I've done so far... and I felt slightly ashamed.

OH MY GOSH. You're speaking my mind! This is so weird. I thought it was the creepiest thing/saddest thing I've ever seen (and even made me sick to my stomach) when I saw Phantom this last time... Ramin did a strange thing during that scene (STYDI)... he gestured to the mannequin on the line "dreams of beauty..." with painful emphasis. Then near the end he whispered "Christine. Christine?" As one calls when they don't have one's attention. Then to himself he moaned "No... No!"

It was just as you described... a demented attraction that gripped me. I'm SO going to have to draw that scene sometime soon... you've inspired me again.

And perhaps it was one of the first times I saw Erik through different eyes. It was probably the second or third time I saw Phantom (the movie) that I finally GOT IT. And that song had a lot to do with it. I felt so horribly bad for him, as he's explaining in vague imagery, his dire situation.

So thanks for the comment.

You're welcome! And the performance of this song was one of my biggest problems with the movie version. He wasn't frightening. He wasn't insane. He wasn't pathetic. He was just an annoyed hot guy with a bad rash. At no point did I feel like Christine was in danger. At no point did I feel conflicted between wanting to comfort him and wanting to run away. *sigh* Also, the lack of maniacal laughter made me very upset. The insanity of that sound is a big part of my attracted/repulsed thing.

And I am terribly curious to see what a picture of that in your style would be. I'm excited!

agreed! Goodness, even in Final Lair, Gerik doesn't sound maniacal at all. Just-- angry and violent, maybe. But not crazy and pathetic.

me too! I've only sketched... perhaps soon it will become a real drawing.

I love "twisted every way". It shows all the struggle thats going on with Christine. Wonderful pic! I think the Phantom is like ready to have a seizure for being this close to Christine! LOL!

That's a great song. I enjoy singing it to myself when I'm trying to get into Christine's shoes. Same with "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", but I often lose interest in that song when I try to pay more attention to the correct way of singing it rather than the lyrics.

Thanks! It's true! He's got a ridiculously demented smile underneath that cloak...

This is amazing!

I'd have to say MY favorite would be Wandering Child, or Final Lair. I just LOVE the music and lyrics for Wandering Child, but Final Lair is so....GWAH! I can't decide!

Those are both great songs. Final Lair is like the ultimate, in my opinion. Although the music in Wandering Child ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS grips me.

Final Lair is amazing. For me I enjoy all of the songs. So I guess you could say they're all my favorite. Like you stated. But recently I tried to arrange them in order. There's some sort of order... some sort...

Well of course. It's kind of, oh I don't know, the main song of the show? Just saying. But it is my fave. xD
But I am falling in love with Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury's Sweeney Todd (as opposed to Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter's)

It's so true! It's not like I hate the movie cast, but now I notice those little things that annoy me. Gerard doesn't sound as melodic and entrancing as I used to think he did. I kind of want to smack him on the head sometimes for growling or whispering when he's supposed to let the music flow from his lungs!!

this is absolutely GORGEOUS. i love how talented you are with your odd choice of media. it always looks flawless, and irrevocably YOU. <3

my favorite song is always all i ask of you. both the original and the reprise. i'm one of the few canon lovers who adores raoul/christine, and i can't think of a better 'squee!' moment than that. i really do adore them as a couple, and although my heart breaks whenever erik begins his echo of them, i can't bring myself to want him to end up with her, because i love raoul, too. it's a complicated web we weave. the reprise always takes my breath away a little bit, especially when he cries. i just want to hug him. D:

however, to listen to, i adore the finale, down once more/track down this murderer. it's just ... ajsd;fla;dlskfj. it absolutely sends chills down my spine. there's a couple notes i just am like OMFG. I WISH I WAS ALIVE IN THE EIGHTIES. to see michael crawford on broadway ... his voice just melts me into jelly.

especially when he sobs, and screams out notes instead of singing them, and his rich baritone on some of those long phrases. he just injects emotion into the phantom like a celebrity with botox. it's absolutely breathtaking. I FREAKING ADORE THIS SHOW AL;DSJFLKADJS;FLKADFS. <3

thank you for inviting my ramble. XD

Aw, thank you!

That's perfectly all-right. I couldn't help but get all "awww" when Raoul proposes to Christine on the roof. It's so romantic!! Sometimes it's a bit hard to blame Christine for her choice... Raoul is a great catch!

"...Complicated web we weave..."

I wish I was alive back then too! To see MC and Sarah live... GAW. That would be sweet!
So I know what you mean. Final Lair always wrecks me.

I love this! I`m actually not fond of the costumes for the scene in the movie-because it really doesn`t make any sense to me. I mean-one second they`re singing PONR and the next it`s All I ask of You reprise. Doesn`t make much sense.

And as for what song-Wandering Child takes the cake for me. After that is the final lair. But I love Wandering Child.

I AGREE. At first I didn't mind them and I thought it was strange that on the stage show, Erik is completely hidden (I was like-- "you should see his face!") But then I fell in love with the way it's filled with even more passion than the movie... the music is deeper, and the mystery of Erik beneath the cloak makes it even more believable. -sigh-

Of the 'Major' songs I'd have to say Point of No Return or Final Lair are my favorites. Though.. Notes2/PrimaDonna is a close runner up! I love singing Carlotta's parts!

Of the 'Minor' it would be Stranger Than You Dreamt It. Hands down. Oooh... Scary dark Erik emerges! Wandering child is a close second as is Erik's part in All I Ask Of You

YAY PHANTOM!

ha ha. Thanks!

Carlotta's parts are awesome. But I'm afraid I'm so biased towards Erik and Christine... any scene with them together or talking about each other makes me literally freeze in my chair with interest.

It's pretty much the first song where we get to know the Phantom for who he REALLY is.

I just think its fun to be able to purposefully sing badly while being annoyingly flamboyant and loud!

"Fear can turn to love.." There's a very deep ache in those words.. *sigh* Poor, poor Erik.
