Description
This is a REAL photograph of REAL mud in Iceland. It is NOT a photo-manipulation or 3D render.Macabre patterns are formed as volcanic mud bubbles up to the surface in Iceland.
Huge single bubbles were growing and bursting in a volcanic mud pool. The bubbles grew to about 18in (45cm) in diameter then burst suddenly and the heavy mud collapsed in on itself. This image shows the instant of collapse, just a tiny fraction of a second, but incredibly complex shapes are formed as the surface of the bubble breaks up.

This photograph is perfectly unexpectable.Β
A color photograph that looks utterly grayscale at ISO100 and
it's subject is wonderfully frozen at 1/1000sec although
everything in this frame is in some kind of motion.Β So
it's like a formal portrait of a natural explosion or a car wreck
or faith
in a universe that never makes this much sense
except sometimes.
Like Granny Goose potato chips, betcha didn't take just one;
so posting just one is like the cube of unexpectable.
This otherwise-bewildering image is a supernatural source of wonder
that's supremely super and absolutely natural
and benefits spectacularly from the few words of explanation
you've provided.
And I'd estimate that more than 99% of this action is vastly less unexpectable:

Beautiful, smart, unique. The title gives a mere entry to the vast array that the subject embodies.
Excellent work: you nailed this one.

I thought this was a fluid sim because it looks really clean, but it's really amazing to see it's a photo. Nature is beautiful

The thing is... This is a real photograph not an invention or a digital creation. It shows the macabre beauty of nature, or reality. It would defeat the value of the picture to add anything artificial.

proberbly - but it would still be nice to have a picture of the mod in a non macabre theme...

That is very cool!! I defy any one to develop a rheological simulation that ca reproduce even the statistics of a phenomenon like that. Also, the lighting is perfect to show off the curves and pockets in the structure.
