Description Been a while since I've made one of these bad boys. School's been getting pretty dang heavy this semester, granted it's always heavy but I've not been able to make more of these. Have not been feeling 100% well either. Only now really feeling better.

What's there to say about Katara? Love her or hate her she's as complex as any of the characters in the show and she's often time the glue that held the main characters together when things got rough. When she placed herself against or away from her teammates things got heavy.

Art is mine.

Katara and all characters related to Avatar The Last Airbender belong to Viacom/Nickelodeon

EDIT: Wow, 1000 views in less than 24 hours. This has outgrossed my original Korra image so far. Remember to watch me if you like my stuff. That'll inspire me to try and do more of these and improve my craft. Thank you all, I appreciate the love.

She has her reasons, but I don't want to get in to more details, but you have your opinion and I respect that..

Please save it in PNG format so it's not such a poor quality.

I did save it as a PNG.

I really need to play around with how I should save these bad boys more though. The quality of the images that end up here are rarely as good as I want them to turn out. Some of it comes from the rather large Photoshop canvas I tend to use.

You should learn how to set Japanese as your font (it's easy and fast to change back). That way you can edit the kanji no problem. Saves looking for poor quality pictures of kanji. <3

Maybe,we'll see what happens. Been thinking of actually drawing the Kanji myself using reference and my tablet.

ThirdEcho In reply to DaveBaldwin3D [2012-11-06 14:54:44 +0000 UTC]

It really doesn't work that well to just "draw" them. Take it from someone who uses kanji every day at school: it sounds better than what actually happens. :/ You can't actually just up and draw calligraphy like you would with a brush, it's severely different.

DaveBaldwin3D In reply to ThirdEcho [2012-11-06 15:02:58 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. But when I actually don't understand Kanji or the Japanese language at all, all options to make it look nice aren't that great.

And by all logic I should not even be using kanji.

ThirdEcho In reply to DaveBaldwin3D [2012-11-06 15:26:09 +0000 UTC]

Actually, it's fine.
You go to google translate for simple kanji like "hope". Not hard, actually, I did it long before I studied Japanese.

Hmm, The overall quality seems to be killed by the Kanji doesn't it? I mean I started making the characters to size on the actual canvas a few pieces ago so I would not have to lose quality via re-sizing but I have not put the same mind set to the kanji... Will have to investigate further...

Yeah, granted I was not particularly fond of how she wen't from a novice at best to someone capable of being a legitimate instructor to Aang almost over night. It was compressed time naturally so it wasn't literally overnight but the pacing was a wee bit off to me.

I see what you mean. Considering Aang tried to teach Katara the water whip before they got to the North Pole. But by the time they made it there, she was skillful enough to challenge Paku.

Yeah, I kind of see season one in general to be more of a proof of concept season. Still solid but there were a lot of kinks. Same thing with Korra so far I imagine.

Book 1 of LoK was amazing but too fast paced. I'd like book 2 to start already.

The pacing issues lessen when watched in a marathon I found. But the issues are still there. Too fast or too slow some kinda got it just right for me but the season as a whole did not work as well as I wanted it to.

Granted it's only because my expectations are incredibly high from Konietzko and DiMartino.

Oh, nice! I like the kanji in the back. ^_^ I only know about 120 kanjis so what does that one mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaveBaldwin3D In reply to ShougaTouki [2012-10-27 01:09:53 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know it means Hope.

I'm man enough to admit that I don't know anything about Kanji and with all of these I just google "________ Kanji" and trust what comes up. Lol

Glad that you liked it friend. I love doing these and the response has always been way more positive that I expect.

I always put positive comments. ^_^ I never say, "This is terrible" or anything. I'm one of those people that finds the positive in everything. But I actually just finished ATLA last night. I'll start watching TLOK soon. XD

Aye, I mean aside from the occasional snark I find it hard to really post anything negative on a deviation. It's just not classy eh?

I remember when I first watched/finished ATLA. Pretty much made me dead set to do something animation related for a living one day. And here I am today a 3D animation student. Not a pro yet, but give me time!

Korra's pretty solid as well. I had some issues with a few things but it was still FANTASTIC. Have a time with it!

3D animation student? Hmm. XD I wanna be a video game designer. Like with the concept art for characters, items, and backgrounds. I was inspired to do that because I'm a video game nerd and it just seemed like something I wanted to do. And, yeah, it's just not good. It makes you look bad and then the other person feel bad. It's kinda lose-lose situation.

DaveBaldwin3D In reply to ShougaTouki [2012-10-27 01:43:10 +0000 UTC]

Aye, but naturally there's a lot more to it than just animating rigged 3D models. There's: Animation (d'oy!), Modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, compositing, and that's not even getting into all of the pencil on paper design and art fundementals. It's a large undertaking for anyone, but for me I love it because not only is is art, it's art with a lot of transferable skills. And there's actually a lot of work (job wise) out there for people. But the work load is enormous.

Good luck on trying to get into design though. It's quite the undertaking.

Oh, I'm not interested in the computer parts at all. I hate computers and computers hate me. My internet keeps exiting out every 10 minutes and videos are always slow. But yeah, as far as video games, I was thinking more of Nintendoish style (Nintendo would be awesome to work for! Fingers crossed!) because the stuff like Microsoft and Sony is usually just too real and not my style to design. Plus, I love the kinda cartoony feel they put into their games. But I've been looking at a really good school that has an extremely high job placement rate. But it's really expensive. The 75 week program is about $45000ish.

I really do hate to break this to you, and I really don't want to be the bad guy but you have to hear it.

You can't just get work at any place of your choosing. You work your ass off and you get a job (most likely freelance if you wanna be strictly design) at a developer you've probably never heard of. You continue working your ass off for years and build up enough of a reputation and at that point, at that point you may (MAY) be offered work at larger, more well know developers. And really, that point may never come. But if you work hard and have a great attitude you can still do some awesome work and make a decent living.

It kind of blows if you really have your heart set on a specific company but the reality is you should only have that in your mind at all for the sake of inspiration to move forward in your work.

But still, you take what work you can get and truth be told you have to be willing to learn other skills as you go along. There's a thousand great artists out there that may want to work at a given studio/developer. The job's gonna go to the guy/gal who has proven themselves to not only have the skills for the job, but have the skills and the initiation to do more than that if called upon.

Follow your dreams but be smart about it is all I'm saying. It's one thing to get your foot in the door, but it's another to be able to open and close doors as you wish.

Good luck and stay gold.
