theres something amazing and mystical about motherhood and somehting very sterile and clinical about science but you have managed to merge them so well in this image. there is something really 'mother earth' about this.

Well, people really seem to love those fuzzy little images. In a way they're the first photographs the have of a new child. I'm surprised there's not more use made of them.

very true, i work in a hospital and i bring people down to the ultra sound room. there aren't many pregnant people there, but the images of inside your own body are really amazing and facinating. the x-ray department is facinating as well.

Isn't there an artist, in Germany I think, who uses an x-ray machine as a camera to produce artworks?

An interesting concept. Was the baby really positioned crosswise?
Head-down would make the birth seem more imminent and look more natural.
A fantastic celebration of a beautiful Mum to be though. Good job.

The position of the baby is as much about making effective use of the "screen" as anything else - we agreed on a suitable position that worked for the image and the composition with her hands.
