Lightpainting is wonderful. Do you have any hints or tips for me? Ligths and settings for beginnig? (Nikon D70)

Give it a try. It's quite a simple technique, but does require practice. There's a tutorial on my website here:

this picture reminds me of the movie the Illusitionist, and also something like the Illusitionist would do in that movie. And you're expression as well, but you look like the detective from that movie

Neat shot. Must of been tricky, and like 80 pictures taken.

I've never been compared to Edward Norton before, although I'm pretty sure that's more a testament to my photography than to my actual appearance

Haha well now you have (:

I just realised that I'm Paul Giamatti, not Edward Norton. That's slightly more realistic.

Yeah!! (I always get the names mixed up, i suck with Hollywood names D:
You look like Paul, and act like Edward in this shot. It's a mix of both, so no worries (:
Close enough i say

I love to work in Photoshop CS and I realy want to know how you did! I promise that I'm not gonna make any copies or try to imitate you!

You photography in general is first rate, really beautiful, creative shots, each more surprising than the next. Though I really like your id for its sheer originality. Great effect you captured here, and I have tremendous respect for you for not having photoshopped it. Anyway, congrats on the featured deviation, and keep up the amazing work!

Thank, but I really couldn't have done this any other way. If I could do this sort of thing is Photoshop I'd be delighted

i've seen lightpainting before but never anything quite as good as what's in your gallery you've got me very interested in it now i'm itchin to try it although i think i need a camera with a longer exposure time....ever thought about writing a tutorial for here on DA about lightpainting?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

DaveMc In reply to Xero-Tolerance [2005-05-14 07:43:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. You can do basic stuff with a 10 second exposure - which a lot of cameras are capable of. The biggest problem with digital gear tends to be noise, and just about any cheap film SLR can be used if it has a B shutter setting. I'm not sure what there is to say in a tutorial as it all boils down to:

1. Lights off.
2. Open shutter.
3. Wave flashlight around a bit.
4. Close shutter.

Point 3 is the difficult bit, and that all happens in the dark
