What an amazing concept! I love the way the lights make her look like a skilled swordswoman, like she's crouching before the strike. Great capture!

That's quite a sword she has there too.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks, I always think that with shots like this the facial expression is crucial.

She's wrapped in electroluminescent wire and shot with a long-exposure. There's a bit of an explanation in this journal [link]
Thanks,
Dave

Your work still never ceases to amaze me. I love her facial expression as well as the pose. Great choice in colors. Maybe you can play again, and have even more colors?? Patterned? Just a suggestion, you are the guru in this art.

Thanks. It's a balance. The more light there is the more difficult it becomes to see her face through the swirl of colour, and the less defined the pattern it leaves. But I will be doing more work with these lights, so more colours to come...

I'd love to write some critique, I'd love to tell you what I think you could have done better and some suggestions for next time, but I can't, it's fucking gorgeous.

Thanks Mark, I'd love to take all the credit, but a lot of what you're seeing here is a record of Jade's performance on the pole. Hitting her mark at the end of a spin was incredibly challenging. I gave her that pose and asked her to spin into it. It was quite an achievement to get it spot on.

How did you light her at the end? I'd instinctively hit her with a flash but that looks like a posed torch-dude-job to me?
Bloody marvelous, I really have to start wiring my models up instead of just tying them up....

DaveMc In reply to MarkVarleyPhoto [2009-05-09 00:11:16 +0000 UTC]
If you did that you'd lose the glow of the wires around her arms and legs as the flash would overpower them (and light the background up too) - so yea, she's lightpainted to highlight the areas that aren't already lit. The main difficultly was that she had to hit that pose, and hold it perfectly still, after 2 spins around the pole.
