Description
This image posted only yesterday is proving surprisingly popular... so I though I'd try and detect if it was a fluke or if there was something in this technique that people really liked. It relates to an advanced rendering technique used in Bryce 7.1 Pro.

Hi there, I wanted to confirm whether you are cool with this image being used as stock rather than a tutorial. I originally thought it was a stock image but then noticed the tutorial bits. It could make a great mechanical heart or such someday. Thanks.

Yeah, feel free to use it how you wish. It was just made to advertise the tutorial.

Saw this as a thumbnail on the front page of DA and even that small somehow I knew it was Bryce, lol. Great and COOL render David, congrats! - Kirk (AgentSmith)

Thanks Kirk! It is not surprising that seeing this shape should put you in mind of Bryce, but maybe I will have to refresh your memory? Steering committee, when the Anisotropic feature first came out for Bryce, you posted a shape like this (sans outer loops) in a sort of lustrous dark green colour using a repeating image texture and it worked really well. So much so that three years afterwards Graham Dresch and I were still debating it, and got to talking about the shape, and then got to talking about Top-mod - which I tried and crashed and crashed and crashed - so I then decided sod this for a game of soldiers, let us do this in Wings 3D. Which is what I did. So in a not so very roundabout way, you were the inspiration for this little lot davidbrinnen.deviantart.com/ar… and more. What goes around comes around - in loops! A sort of digital karma.
Cheers,
David.

It's the kind of thing I'd have on my desk, awsome textures and shape.

Thank you! Yeah, just seem to have got lucky with this one. The question is, can I repeat this trick with another background?

Thank you! Yeah, something a little new for Bryce that I've figured out. One of the advantages of unbiased rendering, you can make impossible materials do impossible things.
