Description
From a top her castle in the great mountains she roams downward. Walking the Earth to greet the changing seasons. She knows it is time for the great change! The colors are of browns, reds, and oranges of Autumn, but the trees are becoming slowly dormant. As she gracefully walks, no, glides across the leaf filled meadows her dress becomes the snow and drapes the land with Winter. However, she greets every traveler with a smile and every animal with a hug. Although her skin is pale and frozen she has a bright heart and gives them gifts of warmth and love. "Although it is my duty to change this old season" she said, "No one shall go without the small pleasures of comfort".
She passes two young, small deer and pets them softly, their heart's already growing stronger. They gave each other deer kisses and knew that everything would be alright. For it is the duty of the Arctic Queen, who is the keeper of this season, to protect her lands and everything within them.

So here it is, I have been working on this painting for the last month and a half. Around 55 hours logged on this one. I don't think the scan does it quite justice but I've been dying to show everyone my new painting
The painting is on Arches Hot Press Watercolor paper. The size is 12x16. I hope you enjoy the painting and the story! They mean a lot to me! Thanks for looking

Quite pretty. I especiallyΒ like how the snow blurs into the surrounding landscape, and the details on the deer.

Thank you so much! This was one of my first paintings using hot press paper which is a much finer flatter surface than what I've used for years before that. Needless to say it's rarer for me now to paint in anything than hot press
I definitely wanted to do the seasons, but I'm debating if I should do them all over in oils!

You're welcome.
If you do wind up doing more seasonal pictures, I look forward to seeing them.
Is this hot press paper commonly available in craft stores?

I use Arches Watercolor paper. It's my favorite brand (a little pricey) but you get a good amount of sizes and sheets. You can find cold press fairly commonly at stores like Michaels, or AC Moore, etc. However I've never found Hot Press at an actual store. You can find it at Jerry's Artorama, or Dickblick online. Both sites much cheaper than buying it locally (even with shipping)

I've noticed that you really like rich, saturated color, very nice. Reminds me a little of many of Botticelli's paintings in the palette. Being a figure guy, however, my favorite bit is her face, exceptionally mischievous! And of course her complexion is perfect for the mistress of the cold months, the pinkish red looking pale enough, but still warm to contrast with her gown. Very nice work!

Thank you for the compliment! Being compared to Botticelli is quite the high bar to live up to
I do love vibrant color, I try to get as much contrast as I can in my work. I was never one for dull paint
Painting faces in watercolors is my favorite part though, so I'm happy that's your favorite part too
I really appreciate the comment! Thanks again
