Description
"It was very dreary being a dragon. He shuddered whenever he caught sight of his own reflection ... He hated the huge, bat like wings, the saw-edged ridge on his back, and the cruel, curved claws. He was almost afraid to be alone with himself and yet he was ashamed to be with the others."-Voyage of the Dawn Treader

This is one of the best scenes in The Chronicles of Narnia. It always stood out throughout the years for me since it shows the greatest change in any of the characters - in more ways then one. I'm so happy i did this painting, this image has been in my head for so long - I'm so glad its on paper now

Have you read Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker books? I like the humor in those too. The only thing I don't like is when he bashes on God. Monty Python does that too. Although I'm not extremely sensitive. I do think his bit on the "Meaning of Life" with Death was funny. "It's a Mister Death or something...come about the reaping?" "Oh do come in, do!" And then he has tea with them. That was funny.

I have read bits and pieces of hitchhikers guide. I do enjoy the series (at least what I read). Speaking of British comedy, I am a huge fan of Red Dwarf (if you have ever seen it). Such a funny and iconic show

I've never seen Red Dwarf, but my Uncle Jon loved that show. He was the King of Geeks too. (Not saying that you are, or anything) LOL

Me too. I call myself a nerdette! I also have Aspie's (if you don't know what that is, it is mild autism.) Yep, I'm on the spectrum, but that's just part of what makes me, ME! I'm coming to find out that a lot of people have some form of autism nowadays. I don't know if it's the preservatives or the vaccines...
Whatever... Not like I can do anything about it. I am ALMOST normal. But who needs normal, anyway. LOL

DavidHoffrichter In reply to bluelilyoffire3 [2010-04-15 03:51:40 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. The real question though is, "Who is normal these days, anyway?!"
You definitely have to be comfortable and honest with yourself in this day and age - and it sounds like you completely are!
Life is boring when it is cookie-cutter, so many great important people (Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, etc) were not considered "normal" back in their day and look what they did.

Yep. A lot of autistic people are pretty brilliant, they just don't know how to express it sometimes.
Thank you for accepting me. I like to tell people about myself early, so I know if they are worth it or not. A few people ignore me after I tell them, and I know that they aren't worth being friends with anyway.
I try to accept anything about someone, as long as they aren't something really bad, like a mass murderer. LOL

You are right about that. Acceptance starts with ourselves.Once a person is comfortable with themselves, the rest is easy.

Yep. It did take me quite awhile to admit I was different though. And I still don't like people telling me that there are things I can't do. I try like crazy to do whatever I can! Sometimes I even try too hard...

*sigh* That is a fantastic rendition of the scene with a soft feel, almost seeming to one found in the illustrations of children's books.
I love the design of the dragon as well as the puffs of smoke that come from his nostrils ^_^!

I completely agree, it's not very often you can really 'see and feel' a change in a person's heart in words. I'm looking forward to seeing Voyage in movie form, how about you? Thank you for the comment

True dat. I can't wait for the movie either (although I've got to say I was disappointed with some of the changes they made in Prince Caspian).
I actually have a story in progress about a kid who's part dragon. Want to see it?
No problem on the comment. I'm always keeping an eye out for some good art.

Definitely, put it on DA and I'll be darn sure to read it, just let me know!!!
I have to agree with you on the fact that they changed a lot in the Prince Caspian movie, however, to its defense, I've always felt that that this particular book was the weakest in the series as far as action/adventure, but important to the development of Voyage which is probably my favorite in the series
Some people may have been completely turned off from the drop in excitement over the last movie which stinks because the rest of the books as I'm sure you know are stellar

The story is still in progress, although I am posting it bit by bit on another forum. If you like I can link you to that so you can watch it progress.
Hmm. Yes, Caspian may have been a bit lacking in the action department. But to name a few changes which were for the worse, having them side with wicked creatures like minotaurs. In the book Caspian was quite clear he only wanted noble creatures in his army. Then too there was that business with Susan and Caspian. It's only a minor flaw, but in all honesty I feel that one of C.S. Lewis' strengths as a writer was that he hardly put anything along those lines into his stories. He didn't need cheap ploys to make it interesting.

yeah the whole romance thing bugged me, it's not what Narnia is about. Many of the major scenes or plot ideas in the movie like you said were a sentence or a paragraph in the book. That was the true genius of C.S Lewis - being able to write something so deep in so few words and in such an accessible way so everyone can enjoy. Also, definitely link me to the forum with your work! I'd like to read it! Thank you

I must confess, although I esteem to be like him, I've never quite learned to write entirely without relationships in my sotires. They're decent, to be sure, but they always seem to crop up. I think it's because there's such a variety in the ways they can go: serious or funny, vehemently opposed or practically forced. I like to experiment.
Here's the site of my dragon story [link] . You can't get to it unless you're logged into the site, but once you're logged in just go to Fan Fiction and look for "Inside This Armor." Can't miss it.
I also have a poem you might find interesting here [link]

I'm going to agree with just about everyone here that this is one of the best paintings I've seen in awhile. Also the best I've found of this seen (okay, I haven't found that many but still). I'm usually not that crazy about watercolor, but I'll make an exception for this one.
I've gotten into the Narnia series more recently so I'm not the biggest fan of them. But out of all the books this has got to be my favorite scene in the entire series. Though with my slightly sadistic sense of humor I kind of laughed at it. *shame*

haha, and I'll say this has to be one of the best comments I've received for this painting. I am honored you like it so much! I don't think anyone doesn't love this scene as it's really a transformation of Eustace turning out of a jackass
You can get into the series no matter how old you are, they are that good. I can't wait for the movie in a few days

Ironic, though, is the fact in English we we're reading A Midsummer's Night Dreamwhen I was reading Dawn Treader. So it kind of fits. Only complaint I have about it was it lasted too short. I liked him better as a dragon and wished he had stayed like that longer (if not for the rest of the book).
Though admiteddly, my want of that did inspire me to think of a fanfic based on a similar situation which I should start on in the near future.
