Description
"It was very dreary being a dragon. He shuddered whenever he caught sight of his own reflection ... He hated the huge, bat like wings, the saw-edged ridge on his back, and the cruel, curved claws. He was almost afraid to be alone with himself and yet he was ashamed to be with the others."-Voyage of the Dawn Treader

This is one of the best scenes in The Chronicles of Narnia. It always stood out throughout the years for me since it shows the greatest change in any of the characters - in more ways then one. I'm so happy i did this painting, this image has been in my head for so long - I'm so glad its on paper now

Hooray for dragons! I am reading The Chronicles of Narnia for the first time, and I am completely ashamed of myself for having not picked them up any sooner (oh well, at least I didn't go a whole life time without them ^_^)

They are great books, which book are you on? That's the beauty about them, you can pick em up at any age yeah I don't think I could ever live without dragons

I am currently reading The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. They really facinating books that you can truly read at any age. Then again, any good book (whether it is aiming the youth or not) is worthy for anyone to pick up at any given age. If it is that good, you have no reason to read it a age 105 if it still gives you innocent, childish pleasure. Of course, I'm really babbling now

haha I hope to live to 105
Voyage is one of my favorites, if not my #1. Once you are finished ALL the books in the series go buy or rent the audio version of the books from BBC's Focus on the family version. Think of it as a movie without pictures, they take the book and add a complete cast, it's amazing! It's as good if not better then the Harry Potter Audio by Jim Dale just with an entire cast and orchestra

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the whimsy of the watercolor with this scene and am incredibly jealous of your clean lines. The feelings you capture here are just *perfect* and in harmony with that scene. Well done!

-I'm reading through The Voyage of the Dawn Treader again for the nth time in my life *has lost count* and found this lovely work of yours roughly an hour or so ago when I went through DA's search engine with the keyword, "Reepicheep"
this is one of the best pieces I've ever seen (and such a good moment captured here too... I wish I could have heard some of those tales that Reep had to tell- him being a Narnian, he'd know so many good stories that people like me miss out on -sigh-)
-I'd say more, but I've got to get to work soon *end quickie comment*
-Daiko~
(has faved this already <3)

I am well...beyond honored by that amazing comment, I actually have to show it to someone
It's funny I'm glad my tag actually worked
and I guess it was pretty far up
But seriously Voyage is definitely tied for my favorite book with the last battle and this scene for me anyways is the most memorable of any scenes in the chronicles
If you are interested I have another scene of Diggory in the Garden from the magicians nephew in my gallery
Thank you again

My fave is actually Puddleglum because he is kind of like a frog...probably mostly the BBC Narnia series fault that I'm so obsessed with Puddleglum cos they are my earliest memory of Narnia. Don't know if I read the books first or not.

hehe Puddleglum is up there for me too I actually own those old BBC Narnia movies, they are so cheesy but when I was a kid I loved them

That was one of my favourite points of that chapter... the fact that of everyone on the Dawn Treader, Reepicheep was Eustace's most constant comforter...
Beautifully done!

DavidHoffrichter In reply to DCLeadboot [2006-12-15 17:31:04 +0000 UTC]
thank you I can still remember hearing that part for the first time when it was read to me. It always stuck out because of the contrasting characters and how they became the friends who we know them as. And also that it really showed that even a mean person like Eustace has a chance of becoming nice
Thank you for the fav...My goal is to paint some more Narnia scenes soon
