Description
"It was very dreary being a dragon. He shuddered whenever he caught sight of his own reflection ... He hated the huge, bat like wings, the saw-edged ridge on his back, and the cruel, curved claws. He was almost afraid to be alone with himself and yet he was ashamed to be with the others."-Voyage of the Dawn Treader

This is one of the best scenes in The Chronicles of Narnia. It always stood out throughout the years for me since it shows the greatest change in any of the characters - in more ways then one. I'm so happy i did this painting, this image has been in my head for so long - I'm so glad its on paper now

This scene stayed with me for 3 years after I read the series, and it still sticks with me albiet now. Narnia was a wonderful series, and the few chapter's when Eustace was a dragon highlighted that even more!
This is such a beautiful piece. I'm really taken aback by it, it illustrates the scene exactally how I thought it would be, I don't think I'll ever see it any other way now.

aww well i'm beyond flattered that you'll remember my painting. I hope it doesn't ruin it for you hehe. I know for me when watching some movies after reading the book your like...darn it now I have Elija Wood stuck in my head well thats not the worst thing in the world. I loved those movies but we're in the same boat. This has always been one of my favorite scenes and it was the one I could remember most vividly
thank you for the awsome comment

No, you didn't ruin it at all, I can almost say you made it better. It's nice to see that the mental picture I painted can come to life not only in the mind of another artist, but on her canvas!
Great work.

thanks! backgrounds can be tough, i usually take a section at a time while painting, and since i'm left handed i work from right to left (something i rarely do but is getting better at)

I love this picture! The watercolour technique is so light and lovely in this. I haven't read the Narnia books in ten years, but for obvious reasons, I should again Love Reepicheep here. ^^

The scene I would really like to see is when Prince Caspian is being rescued from the underground world--isn't that Eustace again? With Jill? And the Marshwiggle stomps on the magic incense and brings them all to see that the "beautiful queen" for the evil witch/dragon/whatever that she really was. Maybe with Caspian in the chair, Eustace and Jill coming out of the trance, smoke from the Marshwiggle's feet--and the queen/dragon in midtransformation??
I like how the bravery of the Marshwiggle made them think about what they knew to be reality and not be pulled in by the lies of the evil around them. It has been something that has helped me when I get pulled in to lies and it begins to feel like a reality--I think of smokey frog feet reminding them to think of Aslan.
Yes, Pearwood is my brother, and yes, I'm a CS Lewis fan--of many, many of his books. I've lost count how many times I'ver read the Narnia series. I'm currently reading A Grief Observed, which is pretty intense.
really nice work. I'll have to add you to my devWatch!

yes!!! the silver chair is another one of my favorites (but thats not fair to the other stories because their all my favorites
) Jill and Eustace were both in that one and they were going to rescue Caspian's Son, Rillian. (i think thats his name) The witch turned turned into a snake and I absolutly love the scene that you mentioned when they go down in the caves. I've always wanted to paint that city with its glowing lights with father time sleeping - very eerie
Right now as we very speak i'm working on another painting from Narnia from the Magicians Nephew where Diggory is being tempted by the wonderful apple in the garden. I'm definatly going to have it up by Next week! sorry i didn't get to this post first i had to run out after i posted on your other comment

I have loved this part about Eustace as well, and you have captured his unhappiness so well. I love it that you added Reepicheep. (although I haven't read it in so long I forget how to spell his name--but I adore that mouse.)
Definite !

thank you so much you got his name down perfect! I've always felt that this part of the story in any of the books was set apart and my personal favorite because these two characters hated one another so much and put their differences behind them to become the best friends that they are. I just wish i made the scan a little larger so you could see 'reep' more - he's too small, i'll get around to it soon
