Wolverine vs Hulk commission... no, my new commission list isn't open just yet, this was for someone who has been very, very patient.Pencils and inks by me. India ink (hunt 102 and brush). This one was pretty big too, A2 size (about 16.5" Γ 23.5").

The anatomy is wonderfull. So are the shadows. I'm always affraid of doing black shadows in inking. Placing them well is hard to do. I guess I took a lesson here. Very inspiring.

Thanks. Spotting blacks is something I've had to really work at over the years, and I'm finally starting to get a bit more confident with it.

how did you start? like did you grid this first?

davidyardin In reply to LearningExperince [2010-07-28 00:18:51 +0000 UTC]
No grids, I just started with Wolvie first, then the Hulk, inked that all up then I did the background. In my layouts I was more concerned with getting the figures correct and placed right than the background. The background was either absent, or really rough in all my layouts, because I knew I could freestyle that. Organic nature backgrounds, that stuff comes to me pretty easy, I guess... probably because there is no need to use a ruler for that ... it's just shapes and textures.

Thanks Bill. Drawing a Wolvie vs Hulk story I'm sure would be on most artists' wish list.

Nice David! I love the bold use of shadows in both of the figures as well as the background, yet you still managed to keep the three elements withstanding on their own. You are very talented man!

Great Wolvie (and in the right costume to boot) and seriously one of the best Hulks I've ever seen.

Yep. Blue and yellow never made sense on Wolverine. He's a stealthy guy, a hunter and tracker. Plus the brown and tan costume is a pretty good match for the actual coloring of a real wolverine.
