Firstly, I must say, this is greatly appreciated. Not only have you gone in depth with this tutorial, but you have also added great visuals and have mixed in a great sense of humour, making it easy and light hearted to watch. Plus a bit of /b/ humour. I can, without a doubt say that i have learned a lot from this tutorial. Your humour made it original and your technique of explaining was brilliant. You answered all the right questions, and allowed us time to absorb all that colourful knowledge of yours.
Read this tutorial.

Do you have any tips for using the perspective tool to make the shadow? It seems no matter what I do the perspective image looks crazy. I even put the four points like you have in the image but for me it ends up being small or far away from the base. It doesn't look neat and connected like yours does...

Dawn-Shade In reply to crow-proxy [2012-11-11 12:54:50 +0000 UTC]
certainly! I think I know what's wrong..
since it perspective tool, you need to use it like you draw with perspective lines.
for example: [link]
that's a perspective lines with 2 vanishing points. you need to put all four points with that lines as guides.
perspective tool, you just need to arrange them perspectively.
(sorry, i kinda hard to explain with words. If you still doesn't understand, don't hesitate to ask further. I'll explain with my own images! )

Ah, thank you. Service with a tutorial! I think I understand it now as you pointed out. I've recently been looking at perspective lines and that tool is making more sense to me.

some images are copyrighted, while some are free to use. I suggest use images from stock providers since stock images are usually free to use.
If you use copyrighted images, you may not publish it.
And thank you

yes, if you don't, you can check my other tutorial about lining or use linearts created by others (but make sure you have permission to use it!)

I have a question about the texture thingy.
How do you resize it?
And how do you change the colors?
Hope you don't mind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Dawn-Shade In reply to deadliestt [2011-08-18 10:03:51 +0000 UTC]
Make sure you already select the area. then, after masking it, try to draw inside or outside that area.
You should know the differences

:/ The tutorial in and of itself was decent, and the touch of humor was refreshing, but telling people to just take an image and make it the background it kinda lazy. It gives undue credit and doesn't help people learn how to draw backgrounds, not to mention it just doesn't look as good as if you learn and get good at drawing your own.

Dawn-Shade In reply to hokage--tsunade [2011-08-12 14:16:11 +0000 UTC]
hmmm.. did I tell people to just take an image for a BG?
I'm just taking an image as example for a BG..
Drawing your own BG is always better.

This is epic hilarious XP I was only looking for trying to make shading tools (like the gradients used in manga) and came across this. Nothing to do with what I'm looking for, but I was compelled to see the whole thing cause the dialogue is very funny

Did you looking on tone-shading? A shading that used in manga using a tone.
