Description This engine is one that used to haul the tube trains before they had electrickery, a real steam punk defeated by the 'shocking' power.

Now running at the Epping and Ongar Railway [link] June 21st - 24th / June 28th - July 1st 2013 A great day out events throughout the summer

Very cool! Was it a condensing engine?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daxserv In reply to dinodanthetrainman [2013-07-01 18:17:45 +0000 UTC]

excert from Wikipedia: One locomotive became Metropolitan Railway No.1 and was a replacement for A Class (4-4-0T) No.1 which had been scrapped after an accident.[1] The other locomotives were numbered 77 to 82. Number 77 is known to have been fitted with condensing apparatus.[2] It is likely that condensing apparatus was originally fitted to the whole class, but later removed. so YES and then NO

truly one of the most beautiful locomotives ever made, it's just so hard to imagine it was once on the underground.

What a handsome locomotive. Whats a tube train ??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daxserv In reply to Transportphotos [2013-06-24 17:22:15 +0000 UTC]

I would say, being a lady she is very pretty. A tube train is what runs on or undeground train network [link] considering the size of the bores it would seem un imaginable that a steam engine could pull the trains.
