Excellent technique, effects, and a cool picture to boot! The background does seems a tad barren, but it minimizes any distraction from the main focal point.

Minimizing distractions was my main focus, actually. I had crates and a Delorean (decked out as the time machine from the second Back to the Future movie) in the background, and it really made the scene too busy. :>

Ah, I gotcha. Though having something that we can assume the relative size of in the far back may help with distance judging. But really you are correct, and this piece doesn't need it.

Nothing wrong with picky. The room is actually a quite deceptively-large size. I had the Delorean in the background far enough to be seen in its entirety, while still having some space between it and the back wall..

Maybe it's a futuristic weapon that doesn't work by the same principles of weaponry, so it does make a click sound when it fires... I'm not sure, I just made it up.

I used to say "eh, good enough" with lighting because some of them took so long... Now, I can do multiple renders with different lights, and compare them or even merge them in Photoshop.. Fun!
