Its time for another re-imagining of a public domain super hero. This time around let’s reinvent the JACK OF SPADES! [link] This is a cool character with strange powers, not your typical “man gains powers under unusual circumstances and decides to fight crime” type of character.

Here's what I worked from…

“When an innocent man is murdered in a gambling den, his last card, the Jack of Spades, falls from his hand and comes to life as it hits the floor. Jack swears to avenge the man and rid the entire world of crime. Then he "returns to his paper form, where he may always be found in any deck of cards awaiting the call of mystery and adventure in his battle against the forces of evil." He also has the powers of flight and a very stretchable cloak. In his second adventure, a large group of Army nurses are aboard the Albatross, headed for the fighting front. Suddenly, they are attacked by Hawkmen and are taken to the den of their leader, Mercuro. The fiend intends to transform them into Hawkwomen. The Jack of Spades stops this evil plan.”

The original design was kind of boring; hero in cape with a spade on his mask. The guy comes from a playing card. Those are crazy detailed images, he should look a least a little like the card.

Here's my take on this guy:

“With his dying breath, a magician cast a spell on his hand of cards after he was gunned down during a robbery while playing in a high stakes poker game. The spell brings to life, after a fashion, the Jack of Spades, pulling him from his card into our reality to protect the magician. After soundly defeating the masked gunmen, Jack returns to the magician only to find him dead. Shaken by his perceived failure to protect an innocent man, the magician was playing poker to win back money stolen from a local orphanage, the Jack of Spades vows to fight evil wherever it appears in the world. Jack then returned to the nebulous “House of Cards.” Henceforth, the Jack of Spades appears to fight evil, energy spear in hand, throughout the world and beyond, using the Jack of Spades from decks of playing cards as access points to our world.”
