Description This is a model I had the opportunity to work with this last summer. I've worked with many models before, and at the end of the day what you end up remembering about them isn't their looks, but their personality. I have taken pics of some really hot models who I simply didn't get along with, and those photos to me are lost-causes, because I don't believe in the importance of physical beauty if you don't have inner beauty to go with it.

Marija is a really sweet girl... we had an awesome shoot in Downtown Palo Alto (my hometown), and then afterwards settled down to have some coffee at the local Starbucks. I'm in the process of revisiting her shots.. more commentary and shots to come as time allows.

Hey there, you're awesome and very knowledgable for you age. Much respect to you...

If I may ask, what lighting technique did you use for this photo? And what camera do you use?

I know the camera part is not important, it's the artist talent. Which is obvious when looking at yours.

Keep up the good work!

Great capture. Quite bright - its stark, I like that. However, the angle makes her legs look a little strange in the way she has them crossed. Still, a great photo.

This piece is amazing, I really admire your style especially to say were both the same age.

This photograph is the type I would expect to see in a fashion mag - ok the clothes are a little conservative but the style of the photograph and the way you captured the light and the model is incredible.

These are the type of photographs I am learning how to take - i just need to get out of my studio but its working with natural light that get me, aside of not owning any outdoor style equipment yet.

Really good work, hope you dont mind if I take a look around the rest of ur gallery!

Thanks for the kind words and for the fav, I'm very much obliged! I checked out your gallery.. how many lights are you currently using for your setup? I think that if you spent more photo shoots outside, shooting in the shade, etc... you may start to get a better idea of the way light works than by focusing on studio work immediately. Plus, I find that models are much more relaxed when they have an environment to work with... just walking around town kind of puts them at ease, and many creative ideas present themselves in this environment that may not come up in the studio.

For studio work, I think what you need before the shoot is very strong concept; and to let the model know exactly what that concept is. Saying that you're gonna be doing "glamour shots", I've found out, is too general. You need to let em know exactly what they can expect in terms of the final result so that they are ready when you are.

I'll add yah to my watch list!

The soft colors work great with the background, really like it. The pose looks more natural than what I've been used to see lately... Very nice

Thanks, my good man! And thank you for the favorite. In regards to posing, I have watched videos of photographers who guide the models through every little nuance, to the point where it is like the photographer is moving a mannequin around. I will correct some obvious things from my models, but largely I have had the pleasure of working with some talented models who bring a lot to the shoot in terms of creativity.

Often, I'll just say "Hey, here's your background; here's the lightsource. Do your thing"

the color of this is very striking, but i think there might be too much light on the legs which fights with our attention towards her face and everything else, but otherwise i quite like it
great shot

Thanks for the feedback! I'll see what I can do about the leg.. if i can make it less bright without making the image look unnatural, that is. We'll see how it goes!

I know how to dodge & burn... what I mean is - will it look natural if one part of her body has a different brightness than the other?

I'll give it a shot and see what I think!

Nicole, thanks for the feedback! In fact, I don't always capture it, as you say... as in any photographer I have tons of photos that just plain don't work. The difference is this: I refuse to include them in my portfolio. Hopefully I can set a high standard for myself, and always hope to set it higher.

Wonderful photograph, and I love the added information in the message about your reltionship with the model. I think that's a great attitude - it shows through a photograph if someone is beautiful on the inside as well.
I love the contrast of this photo and the low saturation of colour, it reminds me of an older photograph or older movie.

Hey Arae (have I caught your first name yet?)

Thank you so much for the feedback! It's very important to me that I respect and connect with the model... I think the strength of the best fashion photographers is the way they can make the model feel entirely comfortable with themselves and what they are doing; honestly, this is something that I have a lot of improving to do on.

Have a good one!

Arae is a mush of first name - Alison Rae.

I love it that even though your photographs largley use models and poses, they look and feel both completely natural and comfortable - I think your relationship with your models helps in that aspect!
