Description
My great grandfather was a holy man. In the village that he lived in, people would bike across town to see him. They would bring nervous chickens in steel cages for my great grandfather to ceremonially execute, since he was the only one in the village that could kill the chicken in a "kosher" way (to steal a Jewish-ism).My mother tells me that I look like my great-grandfather, and I must agree. In my mother's line, my family has always wondered why we don't look exactly like every other Asian person; that is, my mother and her sons do not look like the stereotypical squinty-eyed Asian, and we tend to have longer noses (which in Chinese culture is somewhat of a point of pride)!
Some research by my mother's sister, who is a historian by trade, shed some light on perhaps why my mom and myself look the way we do. She found out that in our family's distant history, there are records of intermarriage between non-Chinese and Chinese in the area that borders the province where my ancestors lived. What this means, if the research is right, is that I have at least one arab ancestor in my background (arab being a term that probably didn't exist back then, nor any specific country with which to cite my roots).
I am sure that if my great grandfather were not an ayatollah, he would be pimping it up with all the ladies. Look at that mischevious smile and proud posture. I feel downright fantastic to be able to say that I have even a little bit of his awesomeness pumping through my own veins.

Roots, eh? I recently tried to go into mine. I'm sure you felt really proud of your grandfather, I'm sure I would . He looks like a really strong man who is capable of exactly what you said there. Man, thanks for sharing

He has one of the greatest expressions I've ever seen. He could read minds, I bet. Possibly cause natural disasters with his eyebrows.
Awesome.

Indeed, I do see the resemblance. That expression he's wearing, in itself, reminds me of you. Seems like his eyes are saying "Yeah... How you doin'?"
Love it!

A proud man indeed. He seems like he has plenty to smile about.
Amazing shot. I love the film grain and focusing. Very natural. Love the raw emotion. Great work.
And yes, you do look a bit like him. Even more if he didn't have the facial hair.

That's so cool I love old photos. I've never seen a photo of my great grandparents, I don't think, though I do know a few stories.

you two do look alike...my blood is also mixed. Even though i have mostly Ukrainian/Russian heritage there is also Gypsy, Arab and Mongolian in me (that might be the reason that when i smile my eyes turn into tiny slits...and my mom just loves teasing me about it but Grandma doesn't though because she has the same eyes )

Oh yeah, total resemblance- look a that face . Awesomeness abounds in your bloodline, you lucky dog. And thanks for the geneology lesson, I actually have an Asian friend who has that kind of oval face with a long nose. Arab ancestors, huh? Very interesting.

looks like he could kill three men at once just using those awesome fingers.
it's good to know where you come from. my family history gets hard to trace after a couple of generations. yesterday I was wondering what my surname meant as to give me a clue to my ancestor's lives (often named after professions, places or prominent family members)
