Description
Hey all! It's a beautiful Wednesday morning (well, where I live anyways. It might be all cruddy where you live and I'm sorry to gloat about how nice it is where I live) and you better BELIEVE it's time for a new comic strip! Indeed, we're dealin' with part 8 of the "4-Bit Fanatic" DEAD DAYS series!! As Mr. Hammer would say, "Yeah, Propah." Such a wise man.
Alright, alright. So I'm not gonna pretend to have taken sides on this whole "console war" thing going on because I play pretty much every system. Whenever a great game comes out I just NEED to play, regardless of the system, I buy the game then figure out how I'm going to procure the console it plays on. Need to play this version of GTA: San Andreas I just bought? Steal my brother's X-box when he's not looking. What? Shadow of the Colossus and Bully are coming out? Borrow the PS2 from my friend for a year (I gave him Bully as a "sorry I've had your shit for so long" gift).
To be honest though, I've always been a Nintendo fan tried and true. You just can't beat the feeling you get when you pop in a new Mario, Zelda or Metroid. Hence the beautiful little Wii sitting in my living room. I don't need the best graphics when I've got the best games. HENCE THIS COMIC! Hell, our boy isn't gonna be swayed by all the 3D TEXTURE MAPPING going on the Next-Gen systems. Nope, alls he needs are 4-Bits of communist propagandist FUN. And for that, his "Factory FunHouse" game delivers. HARD.
Anyhoo, thanks for reading everyone! Wait for part 9 where things start to get maybe a little weird.
Thanks for stopping by!
-John

Nice to hear that you don't care about next-gen graphics either John! You know your guy on the comic strip might be able to download this russian textile game on Wii's VC channel!
speaking of videogame consoles, i just completed a comic relating to rumours of a PSP v2

he aughta get stiff thumbs or carpal tunnel syndrome by my estimations.. It's not good to play 4-bit games for that long.. I'd know..
And when it comes to consoles at large, they suck. Unless it comes down to racing, rpg and fighting games.. Then they're all ok.. The best games I've ever played on console is the Zone of the Enders games, and of course, Tekken... Otherwise I say no thank you to consoles. Give me a nice, good computer and I'm all good.. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can beat a mouse and a keyboard when it comes to FPS or strategy games.. And nothing will until a truly effective hardware to wetware interface is invented, and I'm talking like Matrix shit here.. And that'll probably take a while...

They aren't that hard to find, I know exactly what store to go to that's not far from my house that still has 'em in stock. Honestly I don't even WANT a PS3 anymore after I saw how crappy the PS1&2 games played on it. Not to mention they only have a handful of games out for the PS3 that I wouldn't like anyway so *Blah* 4 the PS3.

Awesome comic, but as Hentai-Sweetie said, they aren't at all hard to find, every where I go has them, it's all about the Wii.

Well, they ARE hard to find.
Sure, anyone can buy one, but have you actually tried to FIND one? Not as easy as it sounds.

The message is so TRUE! HiRes Graphics don't make a good game. Sure they can add alot in term of atmosphere, but dig out an old SNES classic or so and check out how much fun those classic are even today.
But one word about the comic: The glow of the monitor you see on panel 4, isn't there on the other panels.

Haha, in your face PS3!
Brilliant comic, and its so true, not all the best games have awsome graphics. Some people just can't understand what makes a game great isn't its graphics, but its storyline. If only they could see this comic, maybe they'd understand.
Brilliant work dude.

Well, just consider that fact that alot of gaming companies are going to want to make there games for the most powerful system because it allows them to do more. Therefore you'll probably find that alot more [of the better games] will be on the PS3.

Neocmiri In reply to Zandoid [2007-01-24 19:43:55 +0000 UTC]
I did consider that, but also consider, its not the graphics that sell a game, but often it can be the storyline. Look at Final Fantasy VII. Not that good in graphics, but what really sold it was its story. A story that is still hugely popular today. Same with Mario and Legend of Zelda. Often they haven't had great graphics, but their storylines were enthralling none the less.
In all, I guess you could say it all depends on what side of the fence you look at. Its not often you get a game with a good story and good graphics, but with the next gen consoles it will become more common, yet game play is what makes a game fun.

Well I was refering to the newer (though honestly not as good) Mario games.
But Mario has always been rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser, some where I live call it a storyline, I've always called it the goal of the game.

Yeah, but from what I hear from the industry developers (not me personally, but from what the buzz is) is that the PS3 is an absolute BITCH to program for because of the same complexity that allows it to have those kinds of visuals. Thus, it costs developers more money to make games on the system, making it harder for them to get a good return. I'm sure once people learn it better though, it'll be fine. I can't wait to play some of the great stuff coming out for that system... though I can't really think of one currently announced...

you're completely right. they lost a ton of their lauch and first year titles to the high production costs (talk of such smaller companies possibly opting out towards nintendo are exciting), but what'll really be cool is when they finally put out the heavyweight titles that they've always relied on to sell the systems. Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed (makers of Prince of Persia), etc. until then, it's just an excuse to buy a bluray dvd and some bluray dvds if you've got a tv and sound system that'd make good on all that fancy schmancy technology..
i really need to get out of videogame retail lol...

The ONE REASON I would have bought a PS3 would have been for GTA IV, but it's not even exclusive anymore. So I'll just have me a 360 thank you very much. I'll have both, the Wii & 360 for the price of one PS3. 2 outta 3 systems ain't bad! Especially because most of the 3rd party games made for PS3 are also made for 360. And when I REALLY NEED to play an exclusive PS3 game, I'll trade consoles with my friend for a few months. I'm sure there'll be a few 360 games he'll be excited about...
I really need to stop frequenting all these videogame sites lol...

lol yeah that may be what i end up doing since there are some good titles on the 360. but i enjoy the final fantasy games along with those resident evils and all those that i'm pretty sure are still exclusive. not 100% on that anymore though.
hahaha thats the real trick. get a friend and make a pact. my brother is getting a ps3 with his tax return (or most of a ps3 anyway...) so i may just take the cheap road and get a 360 and let him make the big investment lol.

As I breifly mentioned in my comment to Zandoid, a game worth a play will be the PS3 remake of Final Fantasy VII. I'm sure it will have a great story, and with the PS3s Blue ray and Hi-def, finally graphics fitting of it. Unless your not into the Final Fantasy series of course, in which case, it could be a long wait for the first good game.

meh, ps3 can bite my beehind xD
and as mr.deaddays said, everyone seems to be complaining over how hard it is to develop games for it, wich will probably lead alot of games to become 360 or Wii titles instead (I hope so, seeing as those are my two consoles of choice)

Neocmiri In reply to centuryslayer [2007-01-24 21:29:05 +0000 UTC]
I have to agree with him too. Infact the only reason I'm getting a PS3 is for the remake of Final Fantasy VII, no other reason.
But the 360 has already got some good titles, and I'm hoping the Wii can get good ones too (bring on Super Smash Bros Brawl!), but I'm not fussed for the PS3 and its high price tag.

Engines are the tricky bits. Once someone (Say, Insomniac) develops a strong engine, everyone else can latch onto it.
Everything is always hard to develop when it first comes out, especially as it's a radically new architecture. It took the 360 ages to put out decent games too, after all.

I know, it's just that developers don't usually complain (to meda that is XDDDD ) about a system being hard to develop games for
and yeah, the only good launch title this gen was Zelda TP, it took the 360 like a year to start getting any good games >__<

Developers have BEEN complaining ever since the market insisted on them cranking out at least a game a year. The old Sonic games took at least two years each in development.
Also with EA and the general industry drive to turn video games into the next salt mines, you often have very unhappy programmers being forced to crank hard graphics algorithms rather than adopting proper software development paths and having to 'reinvent the wheel' each time; PC developers often tweak an existing engine or at least have a solid API to build their games on, and most Console developers don't have that luxury.
It's not that it CAN'T be done, it's that they're being expected to adapt to a whole new system and burn their first offerings in order to learn how it works. In this case, it's Sony's fault (and the industry at large) for not offering more development tools; Nintendo's always been good about their work, and Microsoft's fallback is that the 360 runs Windows, making it akin to PC development.
