Description
Egg on white paper with overhead bulbThis mini-tutorial is showing a breakdown of the parts of shadow and highlight falling over a curved surface.
Even though this is not a drawn tutorial it illustrates and points out the areas of light , shadow and reflected light that are necessary for the egg to look more realistic when you try to draw it.
Exercise: draw the egg as it is with one light overhead, then try drawing the same egg as you study the areas of light and shadow shown by the arrows.

Mmmmm Eggs make great models, they hold so still!... I think. I wouldn't know as I haven't painted one... well maybe, I can't remember. I do like to eat them!

So simle and to the point. I have been applying this the last couple of days on a painting I'm working on and found it very useful, especialy recognising the changes in value of the proyected shadow and its relation to the shadow on the body, with which I'm always doubting. Thank you!

Nice! Now I want to grab a pencil. It's been so long since college and drawing class. I really, really loved Life Drawing. I just wanted to take it again and again and again...
