She'd started out on this trip eager, raring to go; perhaps even frighteningly so, with a violent energy that was far out of proportion from the task at hand. Thirdghost took her duties seriously - even the boring-as-dirt ones, the ones that robbed her of all vibrant life and will to live. That energy was upheld about a quarter of the day into herb-gathering before the sights and sounds of the forest and the thoughts of everything around the island drew her eyes from the low bushes full of bitter treasures.

There were so much more important things to worry about! Like bodies! DEAD ones! And stone circles, and the gathering (curse all of the rest of them, getting to go while she was stuck here gagging on bitter shit!), and the fact that every sentinel was hoarding her dream job. If she'd been given a path to stick her nose into these serious affairs, surely they'd have been solved already, thanks to Thirdghost's brilliant everything. But NO - stay here and gather herbs, peasant! What else are you good for?

Hour by hour the red wolf's pace slowed and her eyes wandered farther, muttering here and there to herself about how nasty these stupid leaves tasted. By the time Thirdghost dropped her one and only herb collection at the appropriate spot, only two leaves were left - well, one and a half - and they were gnawed so thoroughly they were no longer useful.

Thirdghost dodged as many frustrated healer looks as she could on the way out, biting down on apologies she wouldn't have meant anyway.
