I agree. My anthro designs are mostly creepy yet. Need more practice with such characters.

Umm, maybe these are from cedar pine whose seeds are edible, or they can be used as fuel...

Yes, the eyes... It's the uncanny valley again. But overall its an awesome work! Just played a little bit around with Sculptris, the little brother of ZBrush, and loved it instantly! I know that Sculptris is a kind of a free teaser to lure me to buy ZBrush... And i think, that will happen soon

Yeah, beware the stare of doom... err, thanks man! Zbrush is indeed worth using. Though the current version lacks the local subdivision that is available in Sculptris, there are numerous advantages besides it. Pixlogic plans to add "unlimited clay" tool into version 4.5.

I think the reason why this is scary is because it's a human mixed with a squirrel. People are so used to 'anime' morphed characters, that they forget what they would REALLY look like, anime put aside.
You made sure to make it realistic, and that is what I really enjoy about this. You did a really good job making a squirrel human, and I love the eyes so much. They are so squirrel-y.

Thank you, at least somebody liked the eyes! I am still searching my style in furry art, maybe my future attempts will be less scary) The question is how to achieve balance between realistic and cartoonish style.

those eyes are scary XD and doesnt squirrels have big bushy fur on their chest? but that could be just preference
else gratz to a not so usual DD and I haven't seen so much 3D furry Art yet

DeckardX08 In reply to Farelle [2011-09-04 13:17:10 +0000 UTC]
Maybe, I do not like eyes either. The model was done solely for practice in sculpting fur, and the design was somewhat random. I decided that it will be squirrel only after about half of all work was done.

Uncanny Valley... we meet again. It's not your fault... that kinda just happens with 3D modeling art. ^_^;;;
Congrats on the DD!

honestly i think this is realllly really crappy compared to your other work in your gallery. i personally think this should not have gotten the DD out of all your work. sorry. but you have better stuff in your gallery. cos i dont like the pose or the render, it feels lifeless.

Critique wise, this picture is way too dark. My eye was immediately drawn to the lonely glow behind those spooky trees. She looks like shes having fun but I don't want to be there to share it

Congratulations on a job well done.
Sure, that's not the most original comment ever but not being used to sculpting, can't crit much. I would agree with other comment which said that the pupils (or eyes in general) are a bit too big - however, I'm myself guilty of making the muzzles/faces that people find odd, so yeah...
In this case the size of the muzzle seems OK to me, it could even be little bigger without looking bad.
And realistic fur should smooth out small anatomical details, though I think that with sculpting it just may be a matter of style.
I also wonder if the graininess of the background was intentional or not (I suspect it was ).
All in all, it's really nice to see a good 3D anthro-themed picture. Especially one that has nothing to do with that wretched Poser thing or SL screenshots!

DeckardX08 In reply to xaotherion [2011-08-02 22:38:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot man. Indeed, I see now that eyes done wrong, not only pupils, but position also strange. I hardly will remake this model, but will consider all crits while making my future characters. Sculpted fur is much an experiment; of course, there are mumber of options like using hair simulation systems in advanced software like 3ds Max, or painting fur in Photoshop. But for this one I decided to do everything in Zbrush. Graininess of background is my failed attempt to make it less boring; I should be using some texture instead of Add Noise filter. And I completely share your position against Poser art and SL screenshots. Such art has no individuality, it is simple reproduction of others' work, again and again...
