Thanks! Glad you like it!Β

I did do one piece of the 3 main characters from Count Zero, though I'd like to draw more of them in the future. Β

I love things like this. It's almost like it's out of, one of those, pen and paper RPG's books, that Spoony showcased.Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKqX2L…

Same! Oh yeah, stuff like that is definitely one of the inspirations, plus I've always just liked drawings of products and whatnot (even if non-fictional).Β

So nice to see some ideas from the book realised as sweet designs.

Thanks a ton! For being a well-known book, there's a surprising lack of art based on it, aside from Molly's character of course.Β

Yeah, I think nearly all ideas from the book were allready used in different properties in the meantime. And also: Time went on. If you stick with the feel of the books you get some retro sci-fi like Alien (from todays pov) or Fallout. Or if you modernize it too much, it becomes something different and won't feel like Neuromancer at all. That's why I like your stuff. Especially this ad looks and feels exactly like an ad for personal computers from a magazine from the 80's. That's so awesome!

Yeah, something I don't want in a film adaptation of Neuromancer is for it too feel 'too futuristic' or modernly slick. The more utilitarian and retro low-fi tech look makes a lot more sense too from a practicality standpoint too. Plus the Cyberpunk genre revolves around the degradation of society and whatnot, so it only reinforces the notion that the newest and most up-to-date technology will be used in the most wealthy areas of the world, with the majority still being surrounded by out-of-date hardware.Β

Thanks again! I laid it out and the resemblance to old computer and phonebook ads kind of came across as a happy accident!Β

I love me some 80's design. And if Neuromancer ever escapes production hell I hope it's marketing- and design-teams feel the same way. Retro Sci-Fi seems to be very popular at the moment and the 'big corporations rule the world' thing is contemporary as hell. I think today there is not much inspired Science-Fiction out there, because real world tech and social change is evolving so fast that it's tough for the fiction to keep up. I hope for the best and that Neuromancer gets an director/screenwriter it deserves. I guess my favorite would be Terry Gilliam with someΒ enormousΒ budget and some acid thrown in for the mix.

And the sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.Β

Oh same here. Last thing I want it to be a some slick, hip action movie. I'd rather keep it on the clunky side, but plenty bizarre, enigmatic and creepy when it needs to be.Β

I think Chris Cunningham, who was attached to direct it in the 90s would've been a perfect choice. Very visually amazing, but with an almost avant-garde sensibility to him. Gibson said he would've been his choice too. Second choice would be Alex Garland, who did Ex Machina, which was awesome. It'd probably be a little more approachable if he was on board. But Gilliam is a super interesting choice too, love his weird stylistic choices!Β

And thansk to you !With the help of some retro and synthwave music, I got the will to make a cyberpunk story/concept Actually very classic, sticking to the line of Gibson, but a joy to write !

Haw this is great! I really like the typography work done here. Out of curiously, did the old cyberpunk 2020 chromebooks have any influence on the layout here or is that mere coincidence?Β

Thanks a ton, I appreciate it! Actually, I was looking at a combination of a high-end soccer magazine, Supercade (arcade game history book) and fashion magazines for the layouts of the book. These product pages were influenced also by old phonebooks/catalogs and whatnot, which from what I can tell, the Cyberpunk 2020 books are channeling. So, the resemblance is definitely there! Thanks for mentioning those though, I wasn't familiar with them, so IΒ had to look em' up, and they're really cool!Β

Ah I see!

The Chromebooks, like a lot of the Cyberpunk 2020 stuff are very hit-and-miss but this piece reminded me volume 2 in particular which easily has the best art and layout of the series. There is some slightly funny stuff though like a cyborg body which was literally a trace from the design sheets that old anime A.D Police. Copywrite be dammed!

Once again fantastic work here, the little details like having the key words in bold really sell this one. I also quite like how sturdy the Hosaka deck looks, you could hit it with a N64 controller and it would break before that deck X'D

Gotcha! Will try and check those out sometime!

Thanks again, I think I based the Deck off of the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A which looked nice and appropriately clunky.

I love the 80's aesthetic you gave this, rather than trying to "modernize" it. The logo designs are all spot-on too. I've really been liking this series, since Neuromancer is one of my favorite books.

Deimos-Remus In reply to mrfolkblues [2015-09-03 21:27:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! That's my biggest concern if a Neuromancer film is ever made, I'd rather it have a low-fi, 80s influenced look as opposed to a slick and clean generic aesthetic. Believe it or not, it's those slicker, more 'modern' sci-fi looks that get outdated the quickest. With a low-fi look, there's an authenticity to it, giving them not only a more unique look, but one with more longevity.Β

Glad you like them, Neuromancer has quickly become perhaps my favorite book ever, or at least in the sci-fi genre.Β
