Description As the title states. Just another alien that I decided was halfway decent enough to journey out of my sketchbook and into dA. I was playing around with anatomy, and I think it looks decent. Could have been so much better but eh. It's a sketch for a reason.

Though, it kind of reminds me of one of those highly enlightened aliens from the Metroid series. The Chozo are highly enlightened bird people with distinct insectoid traits. The Luminoth are highly spiritual moth people with an intense love for the light. (WOAH, moths. I just got that reference.) So this thing looks like some sort of Alien that would help Samus in a future Metroid game. At least it does to me.

Done in pen, thirty or so minutes. I had fun doing it.

Delta-Hexagon In reply to ??? [2010-08-23 00:14:12 +0000 UTC]

This guy is actually just a random drawing, so I have no idea what his orifices and organs do. The shapes in this alien sort of just drew themselves in as I was going, so it wasn't really a conscious thing so much as a 'wouldn't it be interesting if this alien had some weird holes on his abdomen' thing. At this point in time I can't really think of much other than the feahered layered area on the chest being a set of gills and the groin area simply being another form of procreation. I'm thinking this guy here has three sexes as opposed to the usual two on Earth, so the sexual organs would differ greatly between individuals. As for the holes in the stomach, mayhap they secrete something as a warning or simply as a byproduct. Maybe only one of the sexes has them, and they secrete a powerful musk to attract potential mates.

I never really thought about how this guy works, so that's about all I can say for now.

Well, now that you thought of it you have a plausible argument (>_o)... Now why I asked is because it seemed almost similar to a creature I'm going for inpart of the rib cage, hip, and abdomen. Why this is an issue is because I'm thinking of evolution from an ordinary snake. You see, my creature is evolving from the regular snakes, and to give it reason to evolve limbs, it would need to show how the skeletal system morphed into that of a bipedal organism, along with intelligence, to similate that of "sapien" attributes. You wanna see?

Ooh, thus far I'm liking it. Nice and sleek and slender, just like a snake would be given the chance to evolve further. What kind of suggestions do you want from me? I tend to work less on the technical side so I'm afraid I'm not much of a help right now.

MacoDelo In reply to Delta-Hexagon [2010-08-28 23:47:07 +0000 UTC]

HAHA! That's okay. What I meant by technical, if I ever did, it was just to ask you of your imagination on creative ways to use biological systems.

IN OTHER WORDS, I was just asking what "organs" could I use, being that you seem to just FLOW with creativity on your creatures--particularly your avatar that look slike a sick-ass zombie dude (~_o)(^^^^)<--Awesome fist.

Try, if you can--there is not obligation, to suggest on these categories: resparatory, muscular, cardiovascular, digestive, neural, and reproductive systems. Don't worry if you don't KNOW as much, because every "small bit" helps; I am getting help from two others who actually don't know any BIT of anatomy besides what they see in the mirror (^w^)--LOL!

But hey thanks again. Perhaps I can add you if you don't mind (o_o)?

Delta-Hexagon In reply to MacoDelo [2010-08-29 17:12:21 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I guess the picture you linked me had a technical sort of feel to it and my brain decided to stop working! In which case, yes, I can help. Lesse here...

As far as respiratory goes, I can see these guys having really long lungs, possibly with their own separate method of respiration; that is, a set of spiracles nestles into the clavicle. While vertebrates have a decent setup now, the fact that the esophogus and the trachea both go down the neck has always bothered me, so if they were moved around, there would be less the fear of choking on something. Especially with something like snakes who tend to eat larger animals. It just seems to me that it would be harder to suffocate if you breath through two holes in your neck, or further down, instead of through the same mouth that you eat with.

Which, of course, would eliminate the need for nostrils, unless you want to keep them in for the purpose of heat sensing pits as in pit vipers.

As far as muscles are concerned, I find it hard to see these guys as strong. With such a long, lithe body, they seem to be more on the weak side to me. It wouldn't really do all that well to carry around lots of muscle mass if they can't even hold it up properly. And if they did have that muscle mass, then they would need bigger lungs in order to supply those muscles with the desired oxygen, and they wouldn't be as fast anymore. Same with the cardiovascular system: the heart would have to be much larger in order to pump enough blood. Is this creature warm or cold blooded? Either choice would be equally interesting.

As for reproduction, if they evolved directly from Earth snakes, then I see no need for anything overly extravagant. Two sexes for the time being, because three at this point in time is simply way too many. The gene pool doesn't have to be that big!

I copied and pasted your last reply before this to my image:

[link]

We can begin the conversation there. Starting with this...

"I see... Though my intention is that the creature be combat ready. What kind of weapons do you suggest for the creature? Perhaps lightweight lightsabers and laserguns? I actually evolved this creature from the regular Orpheodrys Aestuvius that burrowed underground, eventually growing limbs, and become agile in the trees. And of course growing intelligence it learned how to be smart and resourceful."

I will past this reply to the image as well.

this would be a good concept design for that new species on the Mass Effect games called the Raloi. their a sentient bird species thats only just joined the galactic community and are only referenced to in Cerberus News with no pictures.

good job

I'm not all that sure about the hands, myself. They kind of remind me of roots, though, with the lanky fingers and extra fingers on the arm. I'm glad you see the Metroid resemblance, too!

DarwinsDomain [2010-02-24 06:36:20 +0000 UTC]

I like it's markings, the broken "spotted" red and yellow really works...I would have to say the pink doesn't quite work for the glow on the spikes - would swap it to a bright baby blue...IMHO you are free to disregard it!

Delta-Hexagon In reply to DarwinsDomain [2010-02-24 16:20:05 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm thinking about it! The colour of the hairspikes is starting to bother me, anyhow. So there's a good chance it'll be changed. They were actually bright blue before I decided to make them pink!

I love the body colors and the goldish orange color. I just don't like the pink spikes. I think it'd look better green or blue or something. But it's still freaking awesome.

(Unless it's a girl, then it'll fit).

I have no idea if it even has a gender, and on top of that if its species are limited to just male and female or have a few more genders. I'm kind of iffy on the hair spikes but I'm still fooling with it.
