Description
Well damn, some art I never got around to uploading.I had a dream a while back, where I was in a deep underground settlement with a brilliant obsidian ceiling and flying creatures that were the sole source of light. I remember I was some sort of magic weilding alien, and I had taken the form of a human in order to breach this long sought out place and gather intel from the inside. But being there opened my eyes. We were warring on humans for some long forgotten reason, and I had been sent in solely to destroy from the inside. I lived there for years, in my dream. Learning. Realizing that they were not the enemy.
Later in my dream the black magic spell wore off and I was revealed for the fraud I really was. One of them, a menacing, bio mechanical alien from the stars whose entire species sought to wage war and terror on the universe. I was chased, attacked, ultimately killed. In my dream, I experienced a tide of sorrow. When I awoke, there were tears on my face.
So I played with the concept and designed the alien from the brief bits and pieces I was shown in my dream. The skeshix wage war. It's all they've ever really known. They take over and destroy local populations for their war efforts, they enslave entire species. They use their captured planets to build bigger and better war machines to use on the rest of the universe.
No wonder I was so reviled in my dream.
Why would anyone see anything different in the face of war mongering death? My dreamtime inhabitants certainly didn't, and I don't blame them.

War is horror, but it's easy to paint the people fighting you as evil. Sit down for a while and reason.
Your dreams seem really complete relative to my patchwork ones that act like broken records.

I've never been to war, but these guys remind me a lot of the things that fascinated me when I was younger. I blamed myself for a lot of things and that included viewing myself as evil. I had a lot of personality development during a time when I was also interested in Bionicle figures, and Skeshix just have so many features in common with Rahkshi. The spine on the back, the face, having machine parts, trying to taint virtue... I know you didn't make this piece for me, but it lands very close to home.
I'm very stable now, so don't worry about that
On another note, almost all my favorite Sci-Fi stuff has mainly used the genre to explore current social issues. Star Trek had a lot of that. I can see Skeshix being exceedingly patriotic (hence why they don't attack themselves) and wanting to seed their ideas into other civilizations (another reason for infiltration) before throwing around military power. You want somethingΒ left after combat so you can recoup your losses. Inspiring terror could lead to a surrender, so more lives are saved that way. They probably pride themselves when they scare someone into a surrender and successfully indoctrinate a colony.
I don't know how that would fit in with your ideas about them, but that's just me spitballing ideas.
