I have seen it multiple times in my time in secondary school that people can be ignored. I never was as I never allowed myself to be
but I know people who were and are still 'awkward'. So I make my mission that whenever I stride into class, to sit with anyone who is by themselves! (I know who prefers to sit by themselves and who doesn't choose to).
Just take one class, you don't always have to sit with your friends, and you can explain to them if they get upset, but it can make a big difference to someone who feels excluded for someone like ya to appear and take an interest in them!
So yea, you could make a HUGE impact on someone just by simply choosing to sit with them and saying hello! It might not seem like much to you, but it could really mean the world to them.
And the title choice cuz I felt it truly fit

I almost always sit by myself now, mostly because I want to. I just don't really like most people :S
but if someone in high school had bothered to care, and sit next to me, I think I would have been really happy.

My friend says I "gather the misfits" because if I see someone by themselves I always go up and talk to them. Actually that's how I got one of my closest friends

I am this kid, but I still try to talk to kids who are even MORE awkward than me. Great poem. Makes me want to keep pursuing friendship with the quiet kid in my SS class. (I've been trying for two weeks. "WORK ON THIS PROJECT WITH MEEEE

I love this. This would have helped me a lot in school. I was always ignored and hated by classmates. Rumours were spread about me and I was bullied badly. I always sat on my own. And no one would come sit next to me. I eventually lost it with people and had a bit of a violent few years. If someone had given their time to me, even just a hello and a smile, I would have felt that maybe, just maybe, I was worth a little something?
You're so lovely to do that for people! Some people don't want to be judged by friends or lose them so don't speak to those lonely unpopular people. I try to speak to those who look alone because I know how it feels.

I wish people at my old school did this to me..
I have a hard time making friends nowadays since I have social anxiety and a majority of the kids were jerks and 99% of the people in my grade bullied me..so I wasn't feeling so hot..
Everyday- I always wished I could die 'cause I'd rather die then spend another 8 hours in school going through that torture of being alone and bullied everyday..
But I did have friends somewhere to still live for...they're not with me face-to-face..(at least not for another 2 years. ONLINEFRIENDSHIIIIP) and I loved them too much to even build up enough heart to try to kill myself.. I was dying inside day by day but thinking about them helped me bear it a LITTLE...better. My guinea pigs and those 2 special friends..they're what I live for. I want to see them in my future like planned and I didn't want to ruin that <33

Me and my twin sister fit this poem, where seenas the 'odd ones out' in school... And we get bullied for these sort fo things.... But this is what I want, someone just to sit next to me and be nice and not try to make fun at me or use me... as preious people have tried too... Normally I sit alone or sit with my twin....
Its hard when u'r seen as a odd one out but when someone sees u as a human being, they save u from self pity.
One word can bring a smile,
one little word can save,
To be be seen as one,
can truely save someones life.
(sorry it ended up as a mini poem, I think xD)

Herp. I am the alone-sitter in every class I ever had. My new school's class has only boys; I am the only girl. Boys tend to form some sort of pack easily. I stand alone and will forever stand alone, I figured. I can live with that, though.

Some people don't choose to be alone, they just don't feel confident enough (right word? x_x) somehow.
People sometimes need someone to push them just a little bit so that they's don't lose their hope.
A little smile and a hello can change a whole life.

Someone did that for me once, and well--it saved me.

My small group leader at church told me that she had sat with a kid at lunch one day, and later the kid told her that she had planned to commit suicide, but didn't because of her
And my technology teacher told us that in high school he had stood up to some bullies who were bullying a kid, and the kid became the president of a bank one day and gave him a loan to buy a house

There's a sad story that this reminded me of...
One time a boy was walking home from school and he said another boy with glasses walking home as well, carrying all of his books. The guy thought "what a nerd," and stayed on the opposite side of the street. A few minutes later, he saw a group of guys push the other kid down and knock his books over. They laughed and ran away, and the kid was all scraped up. The boyran t his side of the street and helped him pick his book up. The kid was surprised, but grateful.
Over the years, those two boys became great friends. Then, when they graduated high school, the boy with the glasses was valedictorian and was making a speech. His speech included the time that that boy had given him hope. He said that he was going to kill himself that day, because everyone had bullied him so much. He cleaned out his locker because he didn't want his mom to have to do that when he was gone. The boy who had saved his life looked to his parents, and they looked more grateful than anything. He knew he had saved a life by making a friend.
That, I think... is a true story. and it just reminded me.. that's all.

I wish somebody would sit with me in my classes, i really only have one good friend at my school and i don't have any classes with him so i'm always alone. I have two other friends that are in one of my classes but they hardly ever talk to me or sit with me. But, when people come up to me, I have a hard time talking to them and kind of ignore them a little bit because I don't know what I'm supposed to do...
then that makes me feel horrible, even if they don't care.......

I did that once...and now the guy stalks me....-_- i mean i would still recommend talking to "awkward people" because i found my best friend like that XD but don't always think that it'll go well for you~

I did that recently.. and then the person clung to me and I soon found out how annoying, immature, insecure, rude, and needy she was. I realized why no one wanted to hang around her, she was a negative influence in my life and still is. Just thinking about her stresses me out. I understand why she's the way she is, but I strongly believe that I shouldn't have to sacrifice my happiness for hers- especially because we have nothing in common and can't build a friendship out of that.
In other cases where I did this, it thankfully didn't end up that way, and I made another best friend.

It's true. Everyday in almost every class I'm the one sitting alone even in the classroom where there are just barely enough seats it always seems the one next to me is left empty every time. Maybe people don't notice it or maybe they don't care. I never mean to be anti-social or awkward but people don't take kindly to what is different most of the time. Thanks for understanding

A little kindness can go a long way indeed... Admittedly, I was socially awkward in my younger days (and honestly, I preferred sitting alone a lot of times... for my high school, being an artist was a mark of being a weirdo for some reason
