Description I have seen it multiple times in my time in secondary school that people can be ignored. I never was as I never allowed myself to be but I know people who were and are still 'awkward'.

So I make my mission that whenever I stride into class, to sit with anyone who is by themselves! (I know who prefers to sit by themselves and who doesn't choose to).

Just take one class, you don't always have to sit with your friends, and you can explain to them if they get upset, but it can make a big difference to someone who feels excluded for someone like ya to appear and take an interest in them!

So yea, you could make a HUGE impact on someone just by simply choosing to sit with them and saying hello! It might not seem like much to you, but it could really mean the world to them.

And the title choice cuz I felt it truly fit

this sounds kinda familiar to me... though I this wasn't in school. I was in a play on teen depression and we played for three different schools. After the play a boy went up to our guest speaker adn told her that his friend was depressed as asked what he should do. In the end she told us that we had just saved one life thanks to this play...

So, I say never be afraid to stand out because you want to help someone, your courage may mean the difference between life and death for someone.

I just started high school this year, and I didn't know anybody in my B-day lunch period. So I sat by myself on those days. People would occasionally come by and ask me my name, etc. But they wouldn't ever stay. At one point this one girl whose clique sat nearby told me to slide on down and sit with them... but her clique mostly ignored me. So I eventually moved back away by myself after a few weeks. Now just a few days ago these two other girls invited me to sit with them, and they're much more my style. :j Thursday we went and asked this other loner kid if he wanted to join us, but he wouldn't speak to us. -shrug- We went back over to him a few times but still nothing.

So yeah. I have friends and such, but that was still a nice gesture of theirs; now I don't have to sit alone at lunch. ^^

And I bet you're not going to read this but I'm posting it anyways...

I have been on the other end of that problem before - I try to include someone but they unfortunately can't find any common ground with my friends, which seems so odd cuz I'm with such a diverse group! O:

I am glad though that you eventually did found some nice folk to befriend Maybe that lad thinks you guys have a hidden agenda, or he could just like the solitude. Just make sure he knows that you guys are an option should he wish to change that.

And you might wanna change that bet

I would be that awkward kid in this situation- I have friends, yes, but only two that I consider my "best" friends, and one of them goes to a different school and lives half an hour away by car, and the other I don't have any classes with except P.E; we normally get put into different groups in that one.

Unless I'm around them, I don't feel comfortable and don't know what to say or do in social situations because I feel like I can't be myself around other people besides them. This is mainly because when I did do that when I was only eight or nine still, people began calling me a freak and being downright mean to me- one of the older girls would take things from me, whether it would be a pen, a dollar, or threaten to take away my toys. Over time, this kind of stuck with me, and I became the quiet weird kid who sits in the corner and says nothing.

I'm nice to everyone on instinct. The people that take the time to know me know that; but most people don't.

It's true. Doing something like this can save a life- it's saved mine already. Thank god for the few people that care.

I was always that awkward, lonely kid. Whenever someone tried making friends with me, I would usually get pretty offended from the fact they didn't show genuine interest when trying to be my friend.
So don't just act like you're interested in their lives, but instead take genuine interest.

That's me the awkward one, but I was invisible to those kids, cruel, cruel teenagers, and they don't even realise the ramifications of their ignorance, their bullying. I wish there was someone like you in my school, but there wasn't, never was.

Highschool can either make a life or break a life.

In elementary school, I used to go with the bigger crowd. Then when I went to middle school I started to talk to all those kids who were alone. I want to be alone sometimes but I know that many people want to have a friend beside them!

Well I;ve tried everything. Every time I talk to people they litterally turn around and act as if they didn't hear me. I've kind of gotten used to hanging alone now so I'm not depressed anymore. About joining a sporting club, I part of the Karate, badminton, tennis and debating club and it does absolutely nothing -_-. Thanks for for the reply though,

When I first arrived at my new school, I knew nobody, and since I'm kinda shy I couldn't find the courage to actually sit next to someone and say hello. I stayed alone a couple of weeks, which was quite depressing since I had lots of friends in my last school. Just as I thought about giving up and staying alone as the awkward guy once more (in my highschool years I had been like that quite a few times) this girl came to me and said hello. We started talking, and now, two months later, I'm friends with almost everyone in my classes because of her.
Your poem is truly beautiful, I can definitly relate, and that's a really nice feeling. I think I'll show this to the girl that "saved my life". ^^
