Alrighty~ Here are the merquas. :U Well, the common ones. You might notice they're all feminine, yes? Well you're right, merquas are only females, like lamias. And I must say this, but I'm effin proud of these things! ^^ Drew the shiny one from scratch and just copied the lineart for the normal one, but damn it was tedious. ._.;Anyway, on to the bio of merquas! Ahem, right. Well firstly to tell these things apart, the shiny ones are the green ones, and the purple ones are the normal ones. And I dun wanna work on the ears more, but they're a bit more fanned out than that, but I was trying for the fins being hidden behind the sort of stem for the perception thing... Yeah. >_> The adolescent one is the one under the adult shiny one, and the one under the normal adult is a hatchling.
If you're wondering how merquas can breed for more, well they're not asexual, but they can still mate with other males, while of course the first handful was made from the leaders. A little snippet on that is that one of the leaders is male, but I'll say more on that on the pic of them. Anyway, merquas are like vampires in the sense that they drink blood moreso than eat flesh, but they can do either or. Like our typical mermaids, or as I'm referring to the ones from Rosario+Vampire cuz I fancy that anime, merquas use their beautiful voices in siren songs to lure prey in, whether on land or underwater. They use an innocent ruse to lower the guard of their prey once close enough, or if that's not quite good enough, they'll resort to seduction. This makes merquas quite dangerous, as they come off rather friendly, even though the mortal Pokemon who inhabit the area which merquas live know what they are.
Now, sizes. In their monster forms, they're about 19-23ft long, while their sentient forms are only about the size of a normal latias. And it doesn't show here, but the chest marks are blue in either variation. And the main reason merquas are only female is they usually live in cooler waters, which makes the eggs change the young into female. Rarely a male hatches, but to prevent incest and over breeding, the leaders kill off any males... And like mermaids, merquas do enjoy sun bathing, whether on jutting rocks or just floating on the water's surface.
Merquas are quite social, and function more like a lion pride, being quite affectionate to each other, and hunt in groups usually. The current number of existing merquas is around 4,000 not including the leaders. O_o; Dayum! XD But all merquas know when there's too many, since they all live together all the time. As far as what flesh they eat, it's typically water Pokemon, and sometimes other types or berries.
It is possible to get in favor of the merquas, whether it's by somehow befriending them or making a deal with them, but if you manage to get them to accept you, merquas are very hardy allies. They may still act dark around you, but if truth be told, they're merely playing around. If one catches them in their idle time, they can usually be seen playing with each other. Aside from being dark creatures, they can be rather playful, true to a latias's nature of being a naturally fun-loving Pokemon.
A funny trivia on them is that since they're so large, they tend to hunt bigger prey, such as gyarados, dragonair, lugia, milotic, kyogre, and even wailord, as well as larger land Pokemon. Sometimes though, their siren songs can even bring down a rayquaza. In their sentient forms, they'll simply go after prey their size, as if that's not apparent, though they don't seem to prefer their sentient forms. As of powers, they don't have as many as youkos, but if one licks you with their forked tongue, they can actually paralyze you to the point that you can't even speak...
Now on to the young ones. Baby merquas are born much shorter, smaller than a dratini at around 3 feet long, and their sails are very short as well. They only have one sail on their necks, and grow in the second one on their tails as they grow older. Baby merquas do not have siren voices yet, nor are their tails patterned with the diamond scales, but like any baby, they're very playful and cute. As they grow, their tails gain the blue/yellow diamond patterns first, before the other body colored patterns show. The siren voice is attained once the merqua is an adolescent, and babies have no fangs until a few years after hatching.
Merquas cannot live in filthy, tainted water. They have difficulty even being in salt water where the level of salt is especially high. Chlorine water will make them sick, so expecting one to enjoy pool water is unlikely, especially if one uses more than enough chlorine. Because of this, the merqua leaders have made a deal with suicune in general that they'll be spared being hunted if they keep their living waters clean.
