Description
EDIT: forgot some black in Sinner’s tail and back legs lol
I thought that I'd try a new style of drawing: lineless... I think it turned out kinda cute? Not sure if I"m going to keep it but idk? I do know that I LOVE how the grass turned out. uwu I found a cute tutorial on insta for it, which I'll link at the bottom if I'm able, otherwise I'll just add their handle.
tldr; taryn worries about telling bash that she's pepperoni, but he already knew. Bash laments about the high possibility of having to kick Calus out of the herd.

Spring
"Sebastian... There's something you should know."
Bash stopped, turning to look at his first, and lead, mare; Taryn. Ahead, Calus and Sinner both walked along the lush grass, oblivious to the two leads falling behind. Bash looked her over, taking in her growing belly. She had yet to tell him that she was expecting, but it was very evident in her mannerisms. He wondered if she was finally going to tell him.
"What is it, Taryn?" He asked, touching his nose against her neck softly.
"I've been meaning to tell you that I'm with foal." She said, worriedly.
Bash smiled and nipped at her, slightly tangled, mane with a smile.
"I could tell." He said with a chuckle.
Her brows furrowed slightly as she looked at him, huffing slightly.
"You mean I've been fretting over telling you... and you already KNEW?" Taryn snorted, flattening her ears.
Bash stepped back, careful not to laugh. He knew she wouldn't hesitate to kick him if she thought he deserved it. Maybe he did, but that didn't stop him from lowering his head slightly and smiling up at her.
"You're upset, why?" He asked, hoping it would help defuse the situation.
At this point he noted that both Calus and Sin had stopped, at a far enough distance to give them privacy, yet still remain close.
His question seemed to confound Taryn slightly as she sputtered for a moment for words.
"Because," She said, stomping her front foot, "I've been scared about telling you."
Bash took a tentative step forwards. When she did not immediately attempt to bite him, he nibbled softly on her shoulder.
"Why were you scared to tell me?" He probed.
She was quite for longer than he expected her to, so he pulled his head back and nuzzled her face gently before doing the same to her belly.
"It's your first foal, isn't it." Bash stated, already knowing the answer.
"Yes."
He pulled back slightly and looked down at her.
"You don't have to be afraid. I know you'll make a great mother." He said, almost as if he was reading her mind.
Relief settled over him as he watched her visibly relax. Taryn pursed her lips before looking away from him, slightly embarrassed. Bash chuckled and nudged her, before starting towards again with her at his side.
Currently they were by a lake, and Bash took his time scanning the area to make sure there wasn't any threats while he comforted Taryn's unease about being a first time mother. More than once, he caught Calus giving him an unknown look before the colt would avert his gaze. He knew that time was fast approaching and that the colt would soon be making a move for one, or both, of his mares. Bash knew that he could drive the colt away, but it pained him to think of it. Despite not being his own, Bash considered Calus like a son. He would have liked it if Calus would be his second, but knew that would never be the case. Calus was very hot-headed and brash. Things that did not make a good leader. He only hoped that he would find a place that would accept him, and help him grow in to the great stallion Bash knew he'd be.
The soft feel of Taryn's nose against his side pulled him from his thoughts.
"You okay?" She asked, looking from him to Calus, and back.
"I..." He started, half thinking to not tell her, but knew he should.
Taryn was his lead mare, and she helped him lead this group.
"I'm worried that Calus is going to attempt to take the herd soon." Bash said quietly.
"He does seem to be acting more brave about the staring, I've seen." Taryn agreed.
"It's hard for me to think of running him off." Bash said. "It reminds me of when my own father ran me out of my herd, and I wasn't even planning on overthrowing him. Calus is like a brother to me, when I found him alone, curled up for warmth in that cave a year ago, I took him in."
Taryn nuzzled his side.
"He's grown, it's time for him to start his own family then." She commented. "Just like you did. He will find someone who can put up with that attitude of his."
Bash chuckled.
"Yeah, I'd like to meet the mare who can." He smiled.
