This takes me back to years of playing Dwarf Fortress... All those thieving Kobolds I tried to help escape from my tunnels, all because I saw them as those Cutebolds.

Wombles are not something I saw in books or on TV when I grew up though. We had sock puppets and poorly animated eastern socialist cartoons, I think. Thank USA for cable TV!

Don't remember any sock puppets things, but I do remember a Swamp Thing cartoon cartoons like called Bob Morane and Johnny Quest while I grew up.
And only reason I even know about wombles are because Sovietwomble on youtube.

Cutebolds are not silly creatures?

Cutebold werecubi: They look like ordinary cutebolds, but are covered with short, soft, "plushy" fur, and are able to transform into the race of their non-cutebold parent. With their big eyes, they are able to charm you into thinking that they're oh-so-cuddly. Then, when you cuddle them, they shift into their non-cutebold form and either impregnate you or get impregnated by you. As the pregnancy progresses, your soul gets drained from your own body and trapped in that of the offspring, and on the offspring's birth you die and are reincarnated as a baby cutebold werecubi, able to transform into the form of your old race.

Dang...that's a pretty mean mimic you described there. Still kind of a risky niche around certain type of adventurers who despite a heroic status can be quite hostile towards all things cute and cuddly looking.
