Description
I had sooooo many creative ideas for this school project but everything was rejected by the tutor because he thought they were too complicated. Also, I originally had another concept for this project but he shot that down too so..... I went with a concept which was the plainest, simplest, and hopefully most difficult to find flaws with. -_____-I do NOT claim the floral design to be mine. It was taken off a fabric image and traced in Photoshop. (Not enough time, y'see) I still like how this turned out though. The pattern was lovely to work with
"TCHUA" = me

Since everyone keeps asking - What is it printed on? : Plain paper for the CD and card stock for the cover. This is just a mock up so it was only for aesthetic purposes. CDs + paper don't make a good combination in your CD-rom...
Good luck!

Ahh this is amazing! I can't wait till I have my packaging design course. I'm an art institute student
I've done the same thing on some of my recent work, as far as taking pictures of floral patterns. I haven't uploaded anything in a long time :S

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I am curious as to where you go to school. I would love to study graphic design and am trying to get an idea of some different schools and if they are good or not.

I actually really love the simple design and minimal colors of this. One of my favourite CDs actually looks pretty similar to this design :3 It seems like plain and simple is the way things tend to be now when it comes to marketing, so I can understand why your teacher would want you to tone your work down.
But personally I like lots of colors and cute designs >w< You'll do fine either way in the real world, don't worry :3

Perhaps I'm still learning to appreciate minimalism I think it's a good idea, maybe the tutor was trying to push me in new directions and like you said, it's good for current marketing trends
Thanks so much!

OMG, how can they shoot down just about every idea you had! I bet they were awesome too... I wouldn't mind seeing them... if you have them that is.
Well, anyways, that pattern does look like fun to work with. Did you trace it with the pen tool or do you have a tablet... I miss my tablet... but I don't have a darn serial port on my new machine! What machine doesn't come with a serial port! >.< LoL ok... I'm gonna stop.
Well, gorgeous as always darlin'!

Lol, because my tutors should know better than I do I guess that they want the best solution for the situation/problem.
I used a tablet to trace it in Photoshop 'cuz I liked the rough pencil-y lines and wanted to break away from clean vector lines ^^ *blinks* You really don't have a serial port? What machine is that?!

jozie-m In reply to designslave [2006-11-10 06:56:11 +0000 UTC]
Yeah... sure they know best... LoL Still, I'd like to see what they shot down. Oh, yeah, exactly what are you majoring in at college? It says you're an art student, all the things you do on her look so fun!
The tablet sure worked great for this piece! Breaking away from the mainstream-ness is aways good. Yeah, no serial port... it's a custom machine, runs windows xp, I love it to death(good ram, good space, everything) but the darn thing has gave me so much trouble! Now, I guess I adore it since the problems are solved [damn faulty memory], except for my problem with the lacking of the serial port, I need to buy an adapter or something, we I get some extra moolah.

Communication Design, aka. Graphic Design. I guess that they do allow creative freedom to a certain extent, allowing me to make my projects look 'fun' but I can guarantee you that my tutors hate anything cute and girly. =_= I'm just stubborn sometimes.
I need a new com too D: My poor iBook is sputtering and dying.. can barely draw a straight line with the Wacom, that's why some of the lines are a bit squiggly sometimes. Hahaha Good luck getting your serial port, I'm sure you'll earn it soon
Then you can play with your tabbie

I thought it was Graphic Design, just wanted to make sure, because you tend to do things like packaging and things for marketing. Your tutor is such a party pooper... lol... not really, he is teaching you something, later on you're gonna have clients/boss and they might be like him, not like the cute and girly stuff so you have to be able to put the cute meter down (even though you're so good at it!).
Don't you just hate when computers die... and yours is a iBook, those things are so expensive! Anything Mac is! Oh, I can't wait to get my adapter... just need a few extra bucks... lol

designslave In reply to jozie-m [2006-11-12 08:12:29 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, packaging and marketing stuff. Blehs
I have a feeling I might run into more copies of people like my tutor and I'm not looking forward to it but this is the world of commercial design anyway
I shall reserve the cute stuff for my own personal fun ^_^
My iBook has served me well, but I think it's approaching the end of its lifespan... T-T Sigh. Hopefully I can afford a new machine soon ^^

Yeah, it's pretty much inevitable. You are going to run into people like him that just want simple designs and so on. And them manly men that don't like girly stuff! LoL But you're so good at commercial design!
Yep, we want to see the cute stuff!
May your iBook rest in piece(when and if he decides to die)! and hopefully you can get a new one fairly soon. I'll be waiting for more things by you! Ciao!

Oh, I see. It sounds fun to me, but it also sounds and looks very stressful, with all the competition and whatnot. If I ever did it I'd have to learn from scratch too. >_>; Well, I just wanted to say I really like your stuff-- it's always so cute and you do a great job! xD So keep up the good work!

I'm not sure what I'm interested in at the moment... xD I like so many things! But photography and graphics are probably the things I love most, so maybe I should look into it. I'm just not sure if I could find a class for people as young as 13, and not even in highschool yet. >.<; I highly doubt it.
And I'm a slow learner too. D: So it's OK, I know how you feel. xD
And, you're welcome. <3
