I'm not sure I really have an adequate reason for making Sherlock a bit beardy, other than for my own, shallow enjoyment. It's also meant to be post a somewhat difficult case, due to John's bruised knuckles and general injuries.

I really like this way of showing them bruised and more weary than how clean they usually look on screen. This is when their love would really show, when they're exhausted and just want to hold each other after everything is finished.
