Everyone's favorite paleontologist and occasional action hero. Honestly, not much differences since Sam Neill is a damn great actor (and I do imagine Book Alan with his voice...it is not jarring at all since he can be both a fascinating lecturer AND a hardass on page.).

Though there is a point where I prefer Book Alan; that he has a hands-on approach to problems to the point of recklessness. THAT scrambles the limit between badass or insane. I mean after the raging CAPTIVE raptors are dealt with, all survivors are at the visitors' center right ?
WELL, Alan NEEDS to go attack the WILD (and ironically more stable) raptors' nests with gas grenades... And this is in NO WAY a mean for him to study wild raptors up close to satisfy his curiosity. Ellie, Robert and Donald being endangered along the way is TOTALLY an option ! XD

The stance towards kids... I could not care less about and it is unfortunately a Spielberg trend. In E.T., I get that, in Jurassic Park, it's just shmaltzy. You could remove it and it would not change a thing... aside from threatening the annoying brat in the beginning. That was funny, more movies need to do that.

Don't believe that birds evolved from dinosaurs? You're in for a harsh scolding and his beard will probably eat you !
