Here we have Kolbe, Bernd and Schultz.Other officers gave Bernd nickname "Kolbe's favourite child" because Bernd was physically and mentally strong, and Kolbe personally liked him (if Kolbe liked someone, it wasn't good thing at all). Since Bernd was a teenager when he became soldier, Kolbe's methods and behaviour made a strong impression to him. Even so much, that he was slightly cannibal.
Then we have Schultz, the ass kisser himself. When he noticed that Kolbe is dangerous and cruel, he was afraid that Kolbe kills him, so he started to fawn him. Because of his obsequious behaviour, he got nickname "Kolbe's pet". He did everything what Kolbe ordered, just to keep himself safe. Really disgusting guy.
