Description “Bobu”
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Species: Bug
Occupation: Main Character/Boxer(?)
Height: 5’2
Weight: 110 lbs.

Personality/Background:

Once a human video game player who is robbed of her real name, "Bobu" is currently the main character of an obscure video game called “Box Bug” which she was trapped in.

Normally a cynical, jaded person, Bobu has undergone a lot of challenges from her video game prison that has left her a bit of a bitter, short-tempered character that’s somewhat prone to violent outrages at absurd situations. However, she does her best to remain calm and self-reliant as she was prior to becoming a video game character, which may lead others to view her as a bit of an arrogant, know-it-all recluse who doesn’t care about how many eggshells she has to step on.

She can socialize if she feels it’s necessary, but oftentimes she’ll be quite snarky and blunt with her comments, feeling like she’s the only sane person of the group and she’s always reluctant to get involved in events that don’t benefit her.

Due to her wide, expansive knowledge of video game tropes and exposure to several libraries’ worth of video games, she’ll tend to act and react as if she’s in said video games if a situation or circumstance feels uncannily familiar to her, though she often second-guesses herself because she’s well aware of being trumped by her own assumptions due to her experiences in Box Bug, a video game that has repeatedly defied her expectations. To some extent, this has left her a bit more cunning and wiser, allowing her to take charge in dangerous situations if necessary.

And though she can be a touch more cruel and insensitive than what’s expected of her, she has her rare moments of kindness and humility, which tend to happen when she’s in a good mood. Which she’s hardly in.

Abilities:

Outside of Box Bug, Bobu is inexplicably still tied to the video game by means of her video game-like powers and abilities. Sometimes, she’s forced to stay in a certain “mode”, limiting to what abilities she can perform.

Normal: She’s partly stronger than the average human being, with a penchant for punching people in the face if they annoy her. But she has no special abilities to speak of in this mode.

FPS (First-Person Shooter): She’s equipped with a enormous backpack filled with all sorts of guns and ammo, and goggles that enhance her accuracy. Unfortunately, she’s weighed down by all the weight and she can only do jogs at her fastest; in addition, she has no peripheral vision to speak of in this mode, so she often can be surprised by ambushes.

RTS (Real-Time Strategy): She’s especially vulnerable in this mode, being only half as strong as her Normal mode, and tends to take hits all the more easily. But she compensates with a small army of tiny, robotic, bug minions at her disposal, whom the sum of their parts are greater than what their tiny size would lead someone to believe…once Bobu can get a good handle on commanding them.

Platformer: She’s twice as agile as her Normal mode, and her jumps can go several feet if need be. Being capable of acrobatic stunts such as quadruple jumps and combat rolls, she can be hard to get a good hit, but as a result, she can only take at most two or three hardy hits before losing consciousness.

Puzzle: She’s equipped with whatever knowledge she needs to performs “puzzles”, which could consist of traps for her opponents, illusions and tricks of hand to distract, or even just mind games and questions to mislead or confuse them for any purpose. However, she doesn’t have much defense against melee attacks when she’s out of puzzles.

RPG (Role-Playing Game): She’s equipped with a wide arsenal of standard magical spells with silly-sounding names like "Mildly Spicy Curry Breath" and "Feel-Good Sparkle Handwaving". However, in battle, she can only perform the same amount of actions as her opponent, so if her opponent does nothing, she’s apt to do nothing in return. Also, her physical defense isn’t so great in this form.

Fighting: She’s at her most dangerous in this mode, physical-wise. She hits twice as hard as her Normal mode, and takes just as punishment back, able to get up repeatedly if she needs to. Her only drawbacks are her lack of long-range attacks and limited ability to tackle challenges that don’t involve violence in some form.

“Ricco”
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Species: Mexican Whale Shark
Occupation: Crossdressing Dancer/Summoner/Bard/Comic Relief Sidekick
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 300 lbs.

Personality/Background:

Ricco is, for lack of better words, a character from the video game Box Bug whose main role is to assist Bobu conquer the trials of Box Bug, and help her escape it. However, as a carefree, happy-go-lucky character, he proves to be more of an ordeal for Bobu, being rather inept at several areas of expertise and often causing more trouble than helping her; the only good thing he has going is his bardic knowledge of Box Bug, his mad dancing skills, his sheer size and weight and his summoning skills, which tend to be hit-or-miss and are especially rendered nonexistent once he’s outside Box Bug.

Being part bard, Ricco can be somewhat of a romantic, often flirting with females if he can help it (especially Bobu who often rejects his advances) and even sometimes partaking in less than masculine activities, such as sewing and babysitting. He also has a childish demeanor at times, being in awe at the most ordinary things and making a big deal out of them, and he tends to drag poor Bobu along in his wacky antics.

However, whatever his flaws may be, he is fiercely loyal to Bobu and willing to weather any challenge and trouble coming their way, and he cares a great deal for Bobu more than he lets on, which may lead others to wonder if he’s playing dumb on purpose for some greater goal or if he’s just that special.

Oh, and he’s straight, in case the crossdressing confused you.

Abilities:

In Box Bug, he has his summoning skills, which enables him to summon any creature in Box Bug at random.

Outside of it, he’s more or less a huge, muscular anthropomorphic whale shark who weighs a lot and moves pretty lightly on his feet. Due to his bard-like occupation, he’s also adept at drawing, writing, singing and any other creative activities that come to mind.

You know, a long time ago, I was like, "I should actually read 's stuff, because it looks amazing." But I'm lazy. And I didn't. And now that I look at your characters, I am so mad at myself, because they're amazing. And I feel like a derp. D:

It's okay, I don't blame you, as we're all surrounded and distracted by more awesome stuff. XD

And your OCs Damon and Cathal are awesome too. Especially their relationship and such XD Definitely looking forward to your entry on the Lost Stories.

Oh, wow - the personalities!

On the one hand, they could be mad fun to play with. On the other...I know next to nothing about video games. I've gleaned some knowledge from reading about them and occasionally glimpsing people play them, either in person or online, but I've never actually played...
On second thought, take that back. I've played some kind of cartooney racing game...Mario Cart, I think?...briefly, a couple of times, with friends. They kicked my butt. Repeatedly. I couldn't get the hang of the dang controls. And that was years ago.

As such, I might not be able to write Bobu to her full potential, and I'll probably miss all sorts of situational reactions because of it.
I apologize, deeply, in advance for this.

Oh man, I was turning giddy when I was matched up with you, so it's great to hear you liking my characters just from checking out the profiles alone. XD

And you don't have to apologize - the whole video-gamey background shared by Bobu and Ricco is sort of a meta-excuse as to why they're a bit competent when it comes to tackling the Book's shifting genres and the like. The most video-gamey lines Bobu has ever spoken is just a few odd references here and there and the occasional flavor text, so don't worry about writing her to her full potential. Most of my opponents seem to have more trouble with getting her personality right, if the judges' comments are any indication.

And I have to be honest here, I'm eagerly looking forward to how you draw her and Ricco for the usual cover, if you get around to that. Just ask me any questions and I'll do my best to fill you in.

I think that the biggest video-game problem I'm going to have is writing her newest Treasure archetype thing. I'll be sticking with your theme of one-new-form-per-round, but the only ones left now are the Real time strategy (no idea what that is), Puzzle (no idea how it would be used), and Fighter (...possible, but I need to figure out how it'll impact the story first).

And oh, I have questions. The ending of your round three was rough enough that I occasionally wasn't 100% certain what was going on. I got the gist of your mega-plot-twist, but some of the details were lost. Could you note me a quick explanation of what's going on with Bobu there? Was the shaking and dark matter all internal/mental, or was it really happening outside?

Thanks! XD I went for a more cartoony, video-game look for them, given their backstory and all. And I'll update this with some color for Bobu's alternate modes once I get around to them. XD
