Description I dunno. Some people hate OCs...think they're all Mary-sues. Can't imagine why.

Maybe it's because that's what proliferates original character designs. Or what's most frequently paid attention to.

But just sos you all know, the stamp speaks for itself. Just in case, maybe, this was somehow forgotten somewhere along the line.

This is an idea inspired by

edit: Holy cow. This thing gets more 's in one day then my art.

Say whaaaat? I made a stamp supporting fanart too? I must support ALL art .

I honestly don't like fan-characters much, especially mary-sues and copied ones. And those ones that are like "OMG MAI OC IS WOLF-PONY-ANIMATRONIC-FURRY-DRAGON ORIGINAL CHARACTER DONUT STEAL!!!"
Yeah no XD

I have seen some really good fan characters however, I prefer original ones much more. I've made comics with my own original characters and yeah :3

Because to a certain degree. It is. OC's doesnt mean that the character is original anymore. OC can apply to even rip-off characters. Do your research. 'Original Character' doesn't mean what it used to anymore, that's the problem.

Some people hate FAN characters. Β It's largely because they believe fans shouldn't add to the established canon. Β No one who enjoys any fictional work hates true original characters. Β And yes, there is a distinction between a fan character and an original character. Β An original character comes from a world belonging to the character's creator. Β A fan character comes from a world belonging to someone else. Β For instance, Frodo Baggins is Tolkien's OC. Β Mary Elendil Sue, the tenth walker and Legolas' love interest in that super popular fanfiction you read on FFN, is a fan character, not an OC.

Hey, this stampth speakth the truth!

I when people automatically assume that any original character is an Mary-Sue or whatever.
Then they have the nerve to love so many other official characters. "Duh, dere totally not mary-sues 'cause dey r offical and make money and everybody likes dem, so dey r speshul." (Though to be honest, there are as many official characters that are Mary-Sues that there are original characters.)
And to be honest, who cares if a character is a Mary-Sue or not?

Anyways, I love this stamp! Both fanart, and original character art rocks!

Kind of missing the point, I think. Technically, yes, original characters are OCs but when we say "OCs" we refer to fan characters, really. Nice try

I'm not trying to start any arguments; just voicing my opinion. >_<
I rather dislike OCs, particularly when people make them and add them into fanfics and fanart of other series.
For example, if someone posts a picture of their OC in a Naruto forum and claims it to be the sister of Character A, or the love interest of Character B. That's what annoys me.
I'm perfectly cool with OCs in original series. Write your own story, create your own manga, and then I would love to see your OCs~!
Just don't leech them onto official series.

dancingsnowangels In reply to RamenHokage [2011-11-11 02:58:59 +0000 UTC]

The made-up characters aren't OCs, they are in fact actually called fan-made characters. OCs and fan made characters are two different things. Fan made characters are applied to a fandom that exists, while an OC is part of an original world and story.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I hate it when people assume that Fan Made Characters and Original Characters are the same thing. In fact all the characters that an author or game designer creates are all OCs.

Nice. I don't hate original characters (I have made a lot and I have one right now, eventhough it's a self-insert, but same difference), but I do wish people would take the time to deveop them properly. I don't mean Mary Sues, I just mean OC's suddenly appearing in fanfic. That bugs me a lot. If they were more properly introduced/developed like I do with my SI, people might not give them such a bad rap. Good stamp, I faved it because I do agree.

DigiTails In reply to equinox627 [2010-07-15 03:23:02 +0000 UTC]

Perfect characters. Horrible miserable pasts, perfect personalities, excel at absolutely everything, can break any rule without consequence, and most of the time are self-inserts for the author. Sometimes they can be tolerable because of the way they are written and developed, but most of the time they are annoying. As seen here: [link] and here: [link]

I simply hate the term "OC". Whoever coined it is an idiot, because the term "OC" is often used in terms of fancharacters, which are anything but original.

I prefer to call my characters, characters. I feel I can prove their authenticity of being un-related to anyone else's creation enough to where I don't have to slap 'ORIGINAL' in front.

DigiTails In reply to zachperard [2010-05-02 00:35:10 +0000 UTC]

An original character is a character that you make. You decide what they look like, their appearance and so on. A character in a book is the original character of the author.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DigiTails In reply to zachperard [2010-05-02 03:44:54 +0000 UTC]

no. A Fan character is like an original character, but they are in a universe created by someone else.
