Ported to OBJ from the fan-created model made for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games. Original Asmodeus design by David Schmidt as first published in his fan effort Starship Prototype (SFP). Original Jester design by Eric Kristiansen as published in selected works in his Jackill's series. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
This is one of the simpler Greer family variants, intended to serve as sort of a fast gunboat if you will. It's essentially a Greer with an underslung photon torpedo weapons pod. Asmodeus (SFP) is the original version or production block and sports the early TMP era Starfleet standard two-tube pod with both tubes facing forward, while Jester (Jackill's) is the later improved version or second block with a four-tube underslung photon torpedo systems pod, two tubes facing forward and two aft . It was modified for Jester use from the one developed for the Project Avenger uparmed heavy frigates and light cruisers (USS Reliant, TWOK), and worked so well with Jester that it would serve as the design basis for the later (and often elongated) four-tube pod upgrades installed on many Starfleet TMP era Class I starships in the mid-to-late TMP era. There was talk of upgrading the older Asmodeus group to the Jester configuration, but in the end nothing came of it due to Starfleet's severe financial issues at the time and they remained as they were with their original two-tube photon torpedo systems pods for the rest of their service lives. Both Asmodeus and Jester did very well in their intended roles and and proved popular in post Starfleet service sales well after the end of the TMP era after they were officially phased out of service, during which almost all of them were bought for use as local system police and patrol craft. A few (badly dated) are known to survive in the TMP/DS9/VOY era.
This is fanon, although it's good fanon. What you do with it is up to you.
Live long and prosper!
ASIDE - Both David Schmidt (SSP) and Eric Kristiansen (the Jackill's series) had the same idea for a simplified photon torpedo armed Grissom (TSFS) variant, and each came up with very similar designs independently of each other. That's how each ends up in two different classic Trek fanon tech books by two different authors, and that's why both get credit. All I did was combine both of their independent efforts into a single class for my work Federation Fleet Review (FFR) given their obvious similarities. I hope neither one of them are offended and I've always given them credit for their individual concepts. You should too. XD
