Description
Ported to OBJ and custom textued by me from the fantastic STL format CG model recreation by the prolific Captain Mojo. Custom textures created by Dave "First Fleet" Metlesits for his own various Trek fanon efforts. Based on the original design by David Deitrick as created for FASA Corporation's various Franchise licensed Trek gaming products back in the day. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. You can download Captain Mojo's recreation at the link below but be warned! STL models are made for printing with a 3D printer and thus don't normally come with textures. If you want this in textured form then you're going to have to do the job yourself, just as I did. Here's the link:cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/f…
This is the most mysterious of all of the various Feddie starship classes created by FASA for its various Franchise licensed gaming products back in the day. It's featured on both the front and back covers of its Starfleet Intelligence Manual but THAT'S IT. The only other information we have comes from former FASA artist David Deitrick, who both created it and did those pictures. In an interview years later he revealed that he nicknamed it the Bladeship given its unique appearance, that it WAS to have been included in that manual and to have been more fleshed out in the process, but that all of this was cut from the manual prior to its final form and publication. What that "fleshing out" would have contained nobody apparently knows, although there's a lot of fanon speculation based on Mr. Deitrick's two stunning images of it. I think I'm the one that came up with the class name of Claymore for my own fanon works (FFR in particular) and had every ship in the class named after some form of mine or other portable explosive -- although I didn't do much speculating about it and tried to keep it largely the mystery that FASA apparently wanted it to be. Other fans have had their own ideas about the "Bladeship," how it was named and how many there were, what exactly its functions were, etc., and have expounded mightily upon it, and I'll let you look up their thoughts elsewhere.
All we know for sure was that the "Bladeship," to use Mr. Deitrick's unofficial nickname (it's not a class name but it's descriptive), was a highly specialized intelligence gathering vessel fielded by the Federation's Starfleet Intelligence during the TMP era. THAT'S IT. Everything else, including my class name of Claymore (if it is mine, and I think it is), and everything else you see on all the various fan sites and all the other fan write-ups, is NOTHING BUT FANON AFAIK. That said a lot of fans both then and now have had a lot of good ideas regarding Mr. Dietrick's Feddie TMP era "Bladeship," and again I recommend that all of you look them up and decide which of them best works for you. They'll have to do until more concrete data is released by other former FASA personnel or we somehow get our nappy little hands on the old non-revised draft of that manual, and so on (wink). If you don't like any of all those other fanon ideas, then why not come with your own ideas for your own thread(s) of the Trek multiverse? It is, after all, a multiverse. Infinite diversity in infinite combinations, and all that. XD
My custom texture job is entirely my own and is not quite faithful to Mr. Deitrick's original artwork, although in my case I was trying to be more faithful to recognized TMP era Feddie starship color schemes. I was also subconsciously keying off of some of the same ideas that XFozzboute had for the more refined version he did back in 2011. There are other fanon color schemes for this that are out there, such as the one Robert A. Wilson use for his old take of the original from around the same time frame. I published images of both of these in my own fanon Federation Fleet Review (FFR, pp. 185-6), and you can find more images and more fanon stuff on the "Bladeship" with your favorite Internet search engine. I note I had the same idea as did XFozzbutte's on what to do with the front of the warp engine with my own texture job, as in my case this reminded me of the Advanced Circumferential Engine (ACE) concept by noted classic Trek tech uber-fan Arida Sofia (Federation Reference Series, et al). You can take it or leave all of this, of course, or come up with something else instead.
The FASA TMP era "Bladeship" by David Deitrick is semi-canon, as it appeared on the covers of a licensed Franchise product (FASA Starfleet Intelligence Manual).
Live long and prosper.
