Description

Ported to OBJ and renamed from the Curnow class model in the fan-created D2 mod for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

Named for a famous Terran Russian admiral in the history of that planet, as well as one of its more significant historical aircraft carrier classes, Kuznetsov was intended to be the Excelsior generation's replacement for Midway.  It was essentially Nichter modified for the super shuttlecarrier role, with a later revision enlarging its various hangar bay doors to handle large patrol craft and runabouts as well and turning it into more of a space control ship (SCS) like the older Julius Caesar.  To cut to the chase and to keep things simple, it never got out of the starting gate (in most mainstream Trek multiverse threads - ed.)  Kuznetsov was one of the first victims of the growing pacifist mood within the Federation during the post-TMP era, which made it clear that Starfleet needed to "return to its roots" as a force for science and survey and exploration, and not be so "militaristic."  Kuznetsov never won authorization to even begin construction despite repeated efforts during the better part of first half or so of the post-TMP era, and in the end Starfleet had to give up and keep both its Midways and the older Julius Caesar class SCS in service for far longer than it had originally planned.  That said, I know of at least one minor Trek multiverse thread in which the Kuznetsov class got built, albeit under the alternate name of Curnow, and by all accounts it did quite well there.  As with many other starship class designs created by all the major powers that never got built for one reason or another, one can only shake one's head in the case of Kuznetsov and ask the eternal question, "What if?"

I changed the name in order to avoid a conflict with the Curnow class tactical cruiser from the fanon Jackill's Starfleet Reference Manual Volume III.  No offense meant, hopefully none taken.

This is fanon until such time as the Franchise deems otherwise.

Live long and prosper.
