Look kinda familar, TAS fans?

This is CG artist Steve Gillow's take on the TOS long range shuttle from the TAS episode "The Slaver Weapon." This is the type of shuttle on which Lt. Phyllida Gaines of Starfleet Ordinance was hitching a ride in STNV's "The Enchanted Pool" web comic episode. I wanted to use this back then, but I misplaced my port and didn't find it until this weekend -- plus I had too much other stuff going on, what with my bout with cancer and all. Anyway I finally found it, got it ported into OBJ format, and I've started tweaking it in order to better fit STNV series needs. This is just a preliminary fab up; I'll be doing more tweaking and correcting the registry number later. I probably ought to greeble it up a bit more too -- adding faux access panels and the like, you know.

What Mr. Gillow did was take the stock TOS Class F shuttle as a base and then "extrapolate" the long range shuttle from it. That's why it only suggests the actual TAS shuttle instead of looking exactly like it. His end result is what I've already started calling a duckbill design. The "bill" or extended nose would house extra sensor and scanner suites, as well as a shield generator (!) -- which most admin-type shuttles don't normally have. This shuttle is armed, too -- that's what those extra underslung pods are on each side, and explains why the engines have been moved up to overmounted side positions. Unfortunately this model doesn't have any provision for the rear loading door as seen on TAS, but I may be able to kludge something together before I'm done with it.

Anyway, this is a great addition to my growing stash of TOS/TAS era 3D models for STNV production purposes, even in its current form. Many thanks to Mr. Gillow for making it in the first place.
