Description

Ported to OBJ from the fan-created model made by Thu11s for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games by Activision.  Based on and derived from the original TOS era Firehawk class design by Stephen V. Cole and the Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) for the Star Fleet Battles (SFB) tabletop sci-fi war game.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

Firehawk (and its many derivatives) was perhaps the most formidable class (or group) of starships fielded by the Romulans in the TMP era.  It could be described as Sparrowhawk on steroids, but even that fails to accurately describe how powerful a starship Firehawk was in its time.  Technically it was considered a battlecruiser and the first such homebuilt one ever fielded by the Romulans, as it was too powerful for a mere heavy cruiser classification.  There were those who argued (and still do) that it more properly qualified as a light dreadnought given its first-generation singularity engine, four warp engines, and four plasma torpedo systems as its heavy armament.  This last item is what earned the class its official Feddie intelligence code name of Firehawk, given the power of the improved plasma torpedo weapons systems (both heavy and light) that the Romulans fielded in the TMP era and its ability to throw a virtual wall of fire at its opponent with them.  These were originally two heavy and two light systems as first fielded, although this could and often did change given specific mission and assigned patrol area requirements.  There are reports of encounters with Firehawks fitted with four light plasma torpedo systems for the quickest firing times possible (with appropriately reduced warhead yields), there are reports of some with all four mounts fitted with heavy plasma torpedo systems (more powerful but slower to arm and fire) mainly for use as bombardment vessels, and there are even reports of Firehawks fitted with only two plasma torpedo systems and with the other two mounts being used for various types of experimental heavy weaponry.  Given its powerful heavy weapons array, combined with a very good and well placed beam weapon battery, along with its first-generation singularity engine, which gave it the ability to travel at top warp speed while under cloak and charging up its plasma torpedo batteries to fire as soon as it dropped its cloak, perhaps one can understand why Firehawk quickly earned the respect of everyone who ever had to deal with one (or more, if one was unlucky enough).  Whereas its predecessor and lesser stablemate Sparrowhawk was the virtual game changer for the Rommies in the TMP era, Firehawk set a new standard for all-around best capital ship class that the other major interstellar powers were hard put to match or even beat at the tme.  Firehawk is still considered the best all-around Rommie capital ship class of the TMP era even today, and perhaps its only drawbacks were that some of its later variants were overgunned for their hull size (along with everything that implied) and that the Firehawk family as a whole came too late -- too late to affect the course of interstellar history in the TMP era as things turned out, but still making its own unique and indelible impression all the same.

This particular version of Firehawk is fanon, even though it was inspired by and adapted from a semi-canon design (the original SFB Firehawk).  I personally like this version better than all of the other TMP era Rommie alternatives out there, including semi-canon ones from the various video games.  That's because it's consistent designwise with all of the other Thu11s Rommie TMP era revamps (and surprisingly so with many others), and that's why I use it my thread of the Trek multiverse.  What you do in yours is your choice, and more power to you.

TRIVIA - The Imperium class was first introduced in the Klingon Academy (KA) series and later recycled for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series.  It is the Taldren Studios analog of Firehawk.  Both have four warp engines and share somewhat similar bird-like appearances, although Imperium is more elongated and all four of its warp engines are mounted underneath its "wings."  Imperium also enjoys the benefit of being semi-canon, although it's sometimes grouped in with Firehawk in fan efforts or covers/fills in for it.  I've also seen at least one fan mod of the Thu11s Firehawk that was altered to better resemble the Taldren Imperium and its underslung engine layout.  Hey, Trek's a multiverse, right?  XD  Here's a link for those wanting more information on the Taldren Studios Imperium class:
